SOURCE: need diagram of throttle and governor for tecumseh 143.986001 motor

A google search for Tecumseh motor parts breakdown will give you several options. Your ID for the motor is not correct. Look for stamped numbers in the main metal housing. It should start off with two or three letters...LV, OHV....three numbers, and maybe..two letters.

If the carb is still intact, you may just want to rebuild it. Parts are easy to find and inexpensive.

I have a 10 hs tecumseh motor on a riding mower i need an explode view of carb and linkage when start-up engine it goes wide open

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly. I understand you have a 10 HP Tecumseh engine. There are service manuals available on line for your engine but without your engine model number it is difficult to pass you the correct one: Here is the link for the service manuals:
http://www.mymowerparts.com/pdf/Tecumseh_Service_and_Repair_Manuals

Somewhere in the list is your manual.
This is my best guess without your engine model number:
http://www.mymowerparts.com/pdf/Tecumseh_Service_and_Repair_Manuals/TECUMSEH_SERVICE%20_REPAIR_MANUAL_OHH50-65_OHHSK50-130_OHV11-OHV17_OVM120_OVRM40-675_OVRM120_OVXLC120_OVXL120_OVXL125_695244A.pdf

^-Make sure you read about Adjustments in section 1 also.

Running wide open causes:
1. Broken throttle control plate spring
2. Governor spring problem
3. Internal Governor flyweight has departed the governor gear.
4. Throttle plate (butterfly) attached to the throttle shaft in the carb throat has come off the throttle shaft.
5. Broken / missing linkage
6. Someone loosened the governor shaft bolt at the base of the governor arm and allowed the governor to get out of adjstment.

Thanks for choosing FixYa,
Kelly

Toro rider 16-38 HXL when I start it revs at FULL speed and sounds like it will blow up. I slow it down with choke all other linkage seems to be in place properly- Is there a trick to fixing?

Three options:

1. The carburetor throttle plate (closest to the engine is stuck); clean it with gumout and work it back and forth

2. the linkage is hooked in the wrong hole ; check the wear pattern on the throttle shaft plate to see if it is in the wrong hole.

3. The govenor arm or gear is not adjusted properly; loosten the govenor arm, push the throttle plate of the carburetor all the way closed. push the govenor arm the same direction all the way until it bottoms out. tighten the arm clamp. Test again

I recommend getting a manual or at least a free parts diagram from a local shop like www.arcolawn.com

Good luck
Joe

please vote me up if the fix was good.

I have an old tecumseh 10 hp eng model vm100. with carb problem

Rigid link to the top hole on govenor arm, spring link to second hole. If engine 'hunts', try the 3rd or 4th hole. Each lower hole will take off a few rpm, but make the engine less prone to 'overshoot' the goverened speed.

If you have not disturbed the govenor arm clamp where it fixes to the shaft that goes into the engine, that should be all you have to do if you have, proceed as follows ;-

Assemble as above. With engine OFF, loosen the govenor clamp. Push the end of the govenor arm so the carb throttle is wide open. Whilst holding it there, rotate the shaft in the same direction as the arm would have rotated it if you hadn't lostened the clamp. Ensure it's rotated as far as possible (this removes ant 'lost' movement in the internal govenor mechanism.). Now tighten the clamp and release everything. Push the speed control to FAST. The throttle should open, and it will requirer about 4 OZ of force on the end of the govenor arm to close the carb throttle. This force will be generated by the govenor when the engine is started

Move the speed conrol to SLOW. Most of the tention should disappear, allowing the throttle to close with very lettle pressure on the govenor arm.

If all this behaves as described, you should be safe to start.

I had to repair pull cord, in doing so I took the throttle linkage carborator linkages off to get to the pull rope housing. I need schematics to show all the throttle control springs wire hook up to get...

go to sears.com and look up the actual engine number. they have a section for lawn and garden and in there there is a link to their parts lookup and they are very detailed. but you will need a pulse tach to set the govenor back to where it was and if it spun the govenor open too far due to the govenor not being hooked up, it could have came apart inside the motor and you will need to take it to a shop. as far as setting the govenor once you get it all back together, you need to push the throtle wide open and turn the govenor shaft in the same direction then tighten it down. yeah its not hard if you have done it before but if you havent and cant understand what i just said, save your time, and engine and have a shop fix it. and i havent seen a motor in my 9+ years that you had to remove all of that to fix a recoil rope.

Location of governor linkage and throttle linkage

Try going to searspartsdirect.com. You can put in the engine number 143.955016 in the model search and it should give you a parts list and diagram for that engine.
Good Day.
