how do you know you don't have overload relay? All refrigerators have PTC relay's.

All refrigerators compresors have a relay and a overload thermal protector ,both are located on the side of the compresor behind a black plastic cover atached to the compresor with a metal clip(or just the cover snaps in on the compresor).Unplugged the fridge ,pullout the cover and you'll see the relay and the overload replaced them (no more than $30).If this doesn't solve the problem you have a bad compresor, wich is a much more expensive job.

I have a Samsung RS2533SW that isnt cooling Freezer or Fridge . I cleaned the coils out in the back . Compressor is running but seems to shut off after a minute of running , it is warm to the touch .

It's best to have a qualified service tech come out to properly diagnose this issue, it is possible that the compressor is/has failed, it could be consuming too many amps and shutting off on the overload, it's also possible that the main control board is at fault. Pleazer Appliance...

I have a whirlpool refrigerator model w8txewfyq02 the freezer isnt freezing and im hearing a clicking noise

The clicking sound is coming from the overload mounted under the cover mounted on the side of the compressor. You most likely have a defective start relay and it is not allowing the compressor to start. When compressor will not start the overload clicks off to stop power from going to the compressor to protect the compressor from burnout. Defective relays are caused by defective run capacitor, wear, age or a defective condenser or evaporator fan motor. Here are the parts should you choose to repair this yourself=> W10197428 Start Relay and Overload and a 2169373 Run Capacitor You should also be on the lookout for a defective fan motor to prevent damage again to the start relay should it have been cause by a defective fan motor. Not cooling and compressor is hot

If the overload was open circuit you would not have a hot compressor. The overload activates because the compressor won't start. If there is a capacitor starter, change it. If not let it cool for at least a day then try again. If still no go, replace compressor.

Window unit (110) cools for a few minutes then stops cooling just fan air unit is about 6 0r 7 years old

It sounds like your compresssor is shutting off on an overload. After the overload cools down the compressor comes back on until the overload heats up and shuts the compressor off again. The fan keeps running as it is not on the same circuit as your compressor.

9yr old model Maytag window a/c - just blows cold for 30 seconds - then blows warm. Was perfect until this happened. Is it worth fixing? What would be the usual fix for this?

The compressor is shutting off on overload after running for a few seconds. The overload cools down and starts the compressor running again until the overload heats up and shuts the unit off again.

Refrigerator is not cooling. Compressor comes on than off after 20-30 seconds

you need to replace the ptc overload relay replaced on the compressor as this component is getting weak and is cutting out,it uses temperature vs. heat to protect the compressor from a no start or when the compressor cant operate on the run windings and overheats, then this ptc overload relay cuts out the compressor to protect it,it will keep trying to start the compressor till the ptc burns out,it just unplugs off the compressor and a new replacement plugs back in

Frigidaire fac127p1a 12000 btu compressor

The compressor is probably going out on either a pressure related or heat related overload. Both are a result of low refrigerant. There may be a low pressure safety swich that protects the compressor. Otherwise it may be an internal thermal overload that is tripping. It resets itself and comes back on. The thermal overload heats up and shuts off the compressor to protect it from too much heat which is gernerated by not enough refrigerant in the system to keep the compressor cool. It may be cheaper to replace the unit than have someone try and fix it. It is pretty time consuming and you cannot try it yourself unless you have an EPA Certificate to buy the refrigerant. Check with your local appliance repair man to see if he will tackle it.

I have a Whirlpool Side by Side Refrigerator Model # ED25PQXFW01. It makes a clicking noise about every 2 minutes almost sounds like the compressor isn't turning off and the food is defrosting in frig and...

Clicking sound is the protective overload mounted on the side of the compresser to shut the power to the compressor off, should it be unable to start.
After cooling down, it will repeat to try to allow the compressor to start.
Two possibilities.
1. The start components for the compressor are mounted on the side of the compressor and include the protective overload. The parts here are A.the start relay(two styles solid state or current type), B.on some but not all models a start/run capacitor, and C. The overload that you hear clicking. To test these components, you will need a knowledge of electical and ability to use a VOM meter. If you lack these qualifications take them to an appliance parts house and in most cases they will test them for you.
2. Compressor failed. To be totally safe, this test should be performed by a qualified tech.
Compressors carry a 5 year warrant from date of sale, and if the extended warranty is purchased. 10 years.
To allow yourself the most accurate responses in the future on any device you might need help, it is best you start by giving the age of the device. If you don't know, best guess will do.

It wont stay on high setting

take out of can or case, and thoroughly chemically clean with coil cleaning solution avail at Standard appliance, The foaming mild acid type is best! be careful it will burn you in a few mins if left on skin!
It goes on liquid and foams out the debris and chemically strips the surface for max heat transfer, If the evap coil is obstructed (as will happen quickly w/out filter) the sensor on your coil is turning off the comp as the coil isnt being loaded up with any heat load and it shuts off.
Make sure the air exiting the unit isnt obstructed or blowing into a closed area like garage or patio etc. if that doesnt do it adjust the sensor away from the coil just a bit and experiment. they all need to be cleaned as stated at least every other year min! to ever expect to work well.
