Question about Sun Java Desktop System

1 Answer

Playing Pogo games

Just recently I am not able to get in to play Pogo games. I contacted their support and they are telling me that Pogo no longer supports my system to play games. I have been trying to download Java. When I do the test through Pogo to see if the Java is downloaded and working it tells me that it is. Now they are telling me that I can't get on to play Pogo games. I don't understand why all at once I can't get into Pogo when I have been a member for a while now. I am really frustrated because we paid for a year subscription and am not able to even play. I would appreciate it if someone could help me. I have Windows 98 and have been able to play all this time but now they say I can't. Thank you

We still haven't been able to get into Pogo. We have Internet Explorer 5.0 and we use Yahoo as the home page. I have mentioned to the support team at Pogo that if they are not going to help solve this problem then they need to refund the rest of our subscription. But, of course, they are not responding to that. I'm really frustrated with them because we haven't had any problems all this time, why just all at once? We can get on to other sites to play games like Deal or no Deal and FullTilt Pogo but can't get onto Pogo. Do you have any suggestions? It would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I am not familiar with "Opera". Could you please explain this? I will try to upgrade to Internet Explorer 6 but I'm not sure what this has to do with getting in to play Pogo games. I would appreciate any explanation you could give me on this. Where and how do I get "Opera"? Thank you in advance.

Click here to download the Opera browser. It's compatible with all Windows version 95 and up. It's smaller, uses it's own java it's faster than Internet Explorer. I have used it myself since it came out over 5 years ago. Since it's uses its own security settings and uses the latest version of java, I beleive you can play Pogo with it as I have.

It's possible to upgrade to Internet Explorer 6 as it still works with Windows 98. Apart from that, Opera has a version compatable with Windows 98. I'd try both of those options before anything else.

What browser are you currently using and have you tried a different browser? You should also remind Pogo as a paid subscriber, they should either offer support or cancel your membership.

Windows 98!! Yikes, thats old. and must take you ages to load, however try manually installing the Java applet from java.com and see if that works for you.

Go to java.com and download using the yellow pdate java btton on the main page.

SOURCE: Try to play pogo games

Please follow these instrucions to clean up your Java installation.
There is a program called JavaRa that will remove all the old Java versions from your computer. Go here to read about it, then it is a free download from here.
Extract the .zip file to your desktop or create a My Programs\JavaRa folder and send it there. Close your browser and run the JavaRa.exe file and choose 'remove older versions.' When done, it will show you a log file of the Java versions found on your computer and removed. Close that.
Now open JavaRa again if it is not still there behind the log file. Choose "Search for updates" and then "Update using SunJava's website" A browser window should open at the Java home page. (http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp)
Scroll down to the Java SE Runtime Environment (JRE) and choose download. Choose windows from the options, check the license, then choose offline or online installation and click the orange download bar.
Save the file to your desktop or folder, then close your browsers, and click on the file to install Java.
This will give you the most recent version of Java available, which should work seamlessly with Pogo applications.
To check, go to this page and reactivate your Pogo account. Then try to play games.
If your account is properly activated, and you're still having problems, please see this page.
If you want help with these last settings, write back and let us know the exact error message you get from Pogo, and we'll help you to adjust your browser settings to get you in.
I don't see any reason why you shouldn't be able to play with Windows xp. I'm sure you can get it sorted out...

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue. If you need further assistance, please post back with a comment to this thread.
If I've managed to answer your question or solve a problem, please take just a moment to rate this post....thanks!

Try reloading Java. Pogo is dependent on Java for many games.
