I CAN HEAR THE SOUND BUT NO PICTURE BROUGHT THE TV IN FEBRUARY OF 2008, TV WENT OUT ON ME IN NOVEMBER OF 2008 CALLED POLAROID CUSTOMER SERVICE NOVEMBER OF 2008 THEY TOLD ME TO FAX THE RECIEPT, I DID, ABOUT A WEEK LATER I CALLED THEM BACK AND THEY SAID THEY DIDNT RECEIVE IT SO I FAXED IT MANY TIMES AFTER THAT AND CALLED MANY TIMES AND THEY STILL KEPT SAYING THEY DIDNT GET IT, SO I KNEW THIS WAS GOING TO BE A ON GOING PROCESS AND THAT MY WARRENTY WAS GOING TO BE UP SOON. IT FELT LIKE THEY JUST DIDNT WANT TO FIX IT AND GIVE ME PROBLEMS UNTIL MY WARRENTY WAS UP SO I ASKED CUSTOMER SERVICE WHAT IF THIS TAKES FOR EVER AND HE SAID " WELL YOUR ON FILE BEFORE YOUR WARRENTY IS UP SO IT WILL GET FIXED AS SOON AS WE RECIEVE THE RECEIPT" AND THEN WHEN THEY FINALLY GOT IT THEY SAID IT WASNT A PROPER RECEIPT BECAUSE AND DOESNT SAY HOW IT WAS BROUGHT, BY CASH, CREDIT, DEBIT, ETC BUT THE PAPER SAYS WHEN I BROUGHT IT, AND WHERE I BROUGHT IT FROM, SO TODAY I FINALLY GOT A COPY OF MY COMPLETE RECIPT AND I CALLED TO TELL THEM THAT AND THEY SAID "WELL THE PAPER U SENT IS GOOD ENOUGH AND WE HAVE BEEN TRYING TO CONTACT YOU THREE TIMES TO FIX IT" NOW THEY LEFT NO VOICE MAIL AND I DIDNT RECIEVE ANY CALL, THEY REASON THEY SAID THAT THEY WERENT ABLE TO LEAVE A VOICE MAIL WHICH IS SO NOT TRUE SO NOW IM OUT OF A TV THAT I PAID $684 FOR

Hi katie_wood21,

About 80% of lcd tv failures are due to the backlight inverter, I suspect that is your problem.

An easy way to check it is:

  1. While tv is on and you have sound.
  2. Shine a flashlight on the screen.
  3. Loook very closely and see if you can see a video image.
If you are able to see video you have a backlight inverter failure.
If the tv is still under warranty you should begin the return or replacement process now. If no warranty you can take it to a local tv shop and pay about $250 to $350 for the repair, or you can repair it yourself.

Let me know your findings and I will assist further.

Please rate this solution, I know I didn't deliver good news but I gave you the truth without a big run around.

Everytime i turn on my lcd tv it turns on and the pictur goes off

there are flourescent tubes inside that can be replaced, they help to alluminate the screen. There are these other boards inside that can malfunction too, best to take the unit to a technician.

i had the same problem. i opened the panel in the back of the tv (3 screws) and opened the aluminum panel (3 screws). there's a red led light located at the bottom left corner of the top board. to the right of the led light, you will find this thing with 4 switches. i turned the two bottom switches "burn" and "epmw" to on. so far tv have been working.
