Dishwasher dishes not clean

Dear Mr/Ms, We have a kenmore elite stanless steel dishwasher. It is around 5yr old it is not getting all of the dishes clean, some time leaving water with debree on the water left on the bottem of glasses/cups. We had this problem before and I now know that at our chopper needs cleaned. I can get it apart until I get to the housing unit? that last big part that covers the whole bottem of the dish washer. I know that the chopper is under there HELP PLEASE! Our water is very hard also, leaving a build up of hard to remove white/tanish color residue LCR works ok, but you still have to scrub for an hour or two any sugestions? Thank You And Have A Great Day!

My dishes on the top rack are not getting cleaned properly.  The bottom rack is fine.  There is nothing blocking the blade from spinning.  I can't find anything wrong.
    Thanks for your help

Dishes on top rack don't get clean. Arms rotates freely, not plugged, drain loop is in proper location. Water pressure is normal (we're on a well, 45 min 60 max psi).

I pried up a part of the cover over the bottom of the diswasher. Underneath is caked with residue. If I could get the cover off, I could clean it out. this residue looks exactly like what is caked to the dishes.

I have a kenmore elite dishwasher as well and am having trouble with it. The drain going into the circulation pump cloggs up and then it doen't clean the dishes properly. Something as tiny as a popcorn seed with plug it up and we have to tear the inside of the dishwasher apart to rectify. Is there any solution to this other than prewashing everything?

First of all to remove residues from your d/w...what will work to remove the scale and soap residues is called "d/w magic". it comes in a plastic square bottle and you can get it at any grocery store, lowes, or sears.
you just remove the cap, put in the top rack and run a full cycle with the water heat boost option and it will clean out almost any residue from your unit. if it is really bad you may need to repeat this 2 times.

then in the future use dry powder soap, not tablets, fill both cups only about half full, use the normal cycle with the water heat option. also make sure the rinse dispenser is full with jet dry or similar product. then you should not get the residues returning.

after you have tried this then you should brush off any food particles before putting the dishes into the unit. do not assume the d/w will "chop" up any food left on the dishes. they are designed to chop up soft food items, but they also will get plugged at the same time. so its best to just brush the dishes off first.

next is if you still have washing problems, then make sure the unit is filling up with enough water. after you start a cycle, let the unit run for about 2 minutes, open the door and see if the water is just below the level of the heating element. thats how much water they need to circulate properly.

i will reply back if you want to know more.
good luck tom

I am a retired appliance engineer of 20 years, (and whats a chopper), this problem can be easily improved maybe totally rectified, by making sure the salt is topped up and use rinse aid, make sure all the food catch filters are cleaned out and the waste outlet is also cleaned out, make sure blades are free to rotate and holes are not blocked, these are easy to remove and clean they just unclip. there is no need to dismantle the appliance hope i have helped , if so please rate me,

Check to see if it is filling with water and not draining it right back out. Give model number so I can look for a diagram to repair. Just fixed mine as it was doing the same thing.

Keep getting a white film on all my dishes, not cleaning properly.

Check the temperature of the water. Should be 120 deg. Also are you using powder or liquid? Liquid dissolved a lot quicker that powder. So liquid is actually better to use. Try running the hot water at the sink until it gets hot before running the dishwasher. Also you may want to try mixing half cascade liquid and half lemon shine.

The water seems to not be hitting the top row of dishes and the dishwasher has gotten louder, end result not cleaning the dishes

Best to chck the water pump which could be partially blocked and not sending water to the top spray feed.

It would be helpful to have the full model number in order to identify the part numbers etc.

Hi,

I have an older dishwasher also and recently my wife also complained about it not cleaning right... so me being the man I am tried in vain to clean the things... Bought new spray arms online and installed them in minutes...now the thing works like new... However I have also found that if the heating element goes bad then that also can mess things up bad... So I would buy new spray arms, and also check out the heating element to make sure it is working... Here is a tip that will help you with the online buying...

New dishwasher leaving powder residue on dishes.

the problem is hard water and there is a new product out called the dishwasher filtration system. it actually filters the water going into your dishwasher and leaves your dishes spot free. after the first load i was amazed that the white film was gone and my dishes were sparkling. you can get it at www.dishwasherfilter.com.
