Question about Kenmore 24 in. 16222 Built-in Dishwasher
Dear Mr/Ms, We have a kenmore elite stanless steel dishwasher. It is around 5yr old it is not getting all of the dishes clean, some time leaving water with debree on the water left on the bottem of glasses/cups. We had this problem before and I now know that at our chopper needs cleaned. I can get it apart until I get to the housing unit? that last big part that covers the whole bottem of the dish washer. I know that the chopper is under there HELP PLEASE! Our water is very hard also, leaving a build up of hard to remove white/tanish color residue LCR works ok, but you still have to scrub for an hour or two any sugestions? Thank You And Have A Great Day!
First of all to remove residues from your d/w...what will work to remove the scale and soap residues is called "d/w
magic". it comes in a plastic square bottle and you can get it at any
grocery store, lowes, or sears.
you just remove the cap, put in the top rack and run a full cycle with the water heat boost option and it will clean out almost any residue from your unit. if it is really bad you may need to repeat this 2 times.
then in the future use dry powder soap, not tablets, fill both cups only about half full, use the normal cycle with the water heat option. also make sure the rinse dispenser is full with jet dry or similar product. then you should not get the residues returning.
after you have tried this then you should brush off any food particles before putting the dishes into the unit. do not assume the d/w will "chop" up any food left on the dishes. they are designed to chop up soft food items, but they also will get plugged at the same time. so its best to just brush the dishes off first.
next is if you still have washing problems, then make sure the unit is filling up with enough water. after you start a cycle, let the unit run for about 2 minutes, open the door and see if the water is just below the level of the heating element. thats how much water they need to circulate properly.
i will reply back if you want to know more.
good luck tom

I am a retired appliance engineer of 20 years, (and whats a chopper), this problem can be easily improved maybe totally rectified, by making sure the salt is topped up and use rinse aid, make sure all the food catch filters are cleaned out and the waste outlet is also cleaned out, make sure blades are free to rotate and holes are not blocked, these are easy to remove and clean they just unclip. there is no need to dismantle the appliance hope i have helped , if so please rate me,
