Adding RAM, especially if your running Vista, will usually cure a lot of the problems related to speed. You shoul dbe able to see quite a difference in boot time and when loading programs in either XP or Vista.
Adding RAM is usually a very easy process. Certain care must be taken of course not to build up any static electricity of course. But after looking at the specs for the Acer Aspire, unless you are comfortable with taking laptops apart, I would take it to your local computer repair place and ask them to install it for you. THe slot is located underneath the motherboard and requires quit a bit of finesse to get to. Also, from the look sof it, you'll only be able to upgrade to 1.5 GB total of ram. So now it's a matter of considering if it's worth the trouble for an additional 512MB of ram. There will be a light improvement, but you'll have to wiegh that against the cost of the ram and installation.
