Dull picture Our projected image is suddenly quite dark and dull, the lamp is only about a year old and it is at 89% (it doesn't matter which computer it is hooked up to)

Sometimes the projected image is very dark and impossible to discern, other times it works fine. I am an art teacher and this is unacceptable!

It could be the Fish Eye Lens. I had the same issue and the lens was burned badly.

We had the same problem with this projector. We also changed the bulb, which offered no improvement. We took the machine to a repair shop and had it thoroughly cleaned. There was dust and a film on some of the lenses inside. This has brightened our image. So glad we don't have to replace the machine at this time!

I am having this exact problem with this projector. It has been doing this for over a year now. I am happy to see that I am not the only one. Not happy that you do not seem to have had any suggestions on how to fix it. We have even changed the bulb and the problem still persists.

Color looks white washed!!!

there are in the older rear projection sets lens for those that do not use a lamp for a light source.

In the older sets there are three large black lens that can be seen and reached with the rear cover off---if there clean them as they are the light source in those sets and if dusty picture will look dull and darker than it once did.

If in doubt shoot me a model number.

The image projected is dull and colors poorly shown, Photos are not bright and vivid. How do I clean the machine inside? It's about 4 years old and has been well used but with care. Many thanks.

If the lamp has had many hours of use , this could be a reason why the picture is poor.
Has there been much dust collected in the filters over the years.

Depending how long you have owned it and if a Lamp was ever replaced, it probably needs to be replaced. You can check with SONY at

Laptop screen blanks out

Defective CCFL backlight may has the following symptom:
  • Screen flashs on red/pink and off.
  • Picture stays on in red and slowly be come normal.
  • Picture flickering with dim display.
  • Picture flickering on and off.
All these symptoms indicate that the LCD backlight lamp (CCFL Lamp)
has reached the end of the life and all you need to do is replacing the CCFL lamp

Connect an external monitor to your laptop and power it up, if you see the normal Windows images then the video card and laptop is OK and the problem is definitely the backlight.

Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight and it could be the inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out or burnt out, most likely this is the case.
The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.
