Question about Echo 30.1CC Chainsaw With a 14 In.bar and Chain

1 Answer

Chainsaw won't start

I have an Echo chainsaw. Used it a couple days ago... worked fine. Now it won't start. Absolutely nothing is happens when I pull the starter cord. It isn't even "grabbing". It just pulls, free and easy, then retracts, with no results.

Time to get out your trusty tool kit. Remove the side cover assembly and look at the recoil assembly. You should see a pair of fingers that when you pull the cord move toward the center. If the fingers are there and not broken, make sure they move when you pull the cord. clean them if dirty or have foreign objects (like sawdust) around them. If the fingers are broken, replace them. You should be able to purchase them from your local saw shop.

Echo chainsaw ran fine a few weeks ago. Today it won't turn over. The recoil is fine. The flywheel won't turn.

Pull the spark plug out of the saw and put a little cutting oil in the cylinder and try to turn it over.

Chainsaw won't stay running

You must have dirt in one or more of the carb jets. Remove the carb and clean it with carb cleaner spray and compressed air (compressed air is a must).

I have a echo cs5000 chainsaw. What is the coil to flywheel gap.

It is close 0.125 (one hundred and twenty five thousandths.) I have used an open match book as a gap guide on flywheels for 40 years... all make all brands and it works like a champ!

0.12 to 0.16 is acceptable.

ECHO CS 3000 chainsaw-while idling, shuts off if held on an angle

The idle speed screw may be set too low--adjust so that the chain stops moving, but the engine keeps running. Drain the fuel tank and see if the filter falls to the lowest point of the tank whatever the position. If it doesn't, replace the fuel line hooked to the filter as it may have lost flexibility. Hope this helps!

Chainsaw starts fine, but dies mid cut?

Immediately after saw quits, while everything is still hot. Sometimes ignition modules quit working when hot.

You may need to use a jumper wire between the threaded part of the plug and the cooling fins. You don’t have to bend up the electrode.

Loosen fuel cap when it starts to die, If that fixes it it has a fuel vent problem.

If you did nothing to the carburetor adjustments, are using a fresh (3 months or less) fuel mix with the same oil/fuel ratio, and are operating at the same elevation there is a reason your saw is acting up.
It sounds as though there may be a fuel delivery problem. Check the fuel filter on the free end of a hose in fuel tank (manufacturer recommends an annual replacement). Check all fuel delivery lines especially at fittings and bends for cracks and holes. If those are good then the likely cause is internal parts of the carburetor. HTH
