    only vista.

    Could I swich to vista?

  • bamsbaby14 Apr 22, 2009

Yes my other computer has a cd burner and access to the internet

Never mind about the vista did some reading on it and its not very good

  • Barry Parks May 11, 2010

You would have to buy a copy of Vista. It would probably be better to try and locate a CD for XP.

Do you have access to a computer with internet and a CD burner?

  • Barry Parks May 11, 2010

To move ahead you will need an XP installation CD. Do you know anyone that can lend you one? You will use the license code on the MS sticker on the computer. If you can locate a disk we should be able to get the computer running and save your pictures, too.

Let me know when I can help.

OK, let's try doing a system restore in Safe Mode first. Here's how:

To start the computer in SAFE MODE:

        1. The computer must be turned off.

        2. Start the computer

        3. When the initial splash screen
is displayed, begin tapping the F8 key

        4. When the launch menu is
displayed, select SAFE MODE at the top of the list

        5. Press enter

        6. When SAFE MODE has started, a
window will open to inform you that Windows has started in SAFE
MODE. There are two buttons at the bottom of the window.

          a. YES. Click this to enter Safe
Mode for diagnostics or OS repairs. Delete the

          software or hardware or
device drivers you wish. The system will restart

          when you exit Safe Mode.

          b. NO. Click this to perform a
System Restore. Choose a date prior to the

          beginning of the issue you
are attempting to resolve. The system will restart

          to complete the restore.
You should click NO and do the restore. Choose a date that is before the issue first appeared.

Good luck, and please let me know how this works for you. If it is not successful, we can chat and try something else.

Which operating system, XP? Do you have the installation CD? Is there any data on the hard drive that needs to be saved?

Let me know and I'll try to help you.

Try running your laptop in safe mode. In order to do this, right when you start your laptop, press F8. It would then take you to a screen that has an option that says "Safe Mode". Run the laptop in safe mode, and then go to system tools and try running the system restore tool.

Make sure the laptop is not connected to the internet so turn off the wireless adapter or don't connect any network cable to it.

My laptop turns on but when i enter my pc password it does not do anything it says strating up but it does not start up

First thing to try, start up in safe mode. When power on, keep tapping F8 key till text screen menu comes up. Choose Safe Mode.
You will see bunch of text on screen then it will take a while before asking you to log in. (2-3 mins?)
When logged in, do a system restore.
Start button, Programs, Accessories, System Tools, System Restore..
Choose to restore, choose a recent bold date when you know it worked, click Ok (or continue, forgot what it says there..) Let it do it's thing.
This will reverse any recent change that may have caused the problem.

If will not start again, then repost for more help.

Laptop stuck on screen "Windows is resuming"

First determine if windows is really hung.

Restart the laptop and keep pressing the F8 function key. You will get a menu. Try the safe mode option by selecting it with arrow keys and pressing enter. Click on Yes when it asks the question.

If Windows runs okay in safe mode, reboot and try starting normally without pressing any keys). If again it won't start, then go back to safe mode and when asked the Yes/No question, reply with a No and it will ask you to do a system restore. Just select a recent restore point say one or 2 days ago or the most recent and select restore. It will take some time and reboot the system. Now everything should be hopefully okay.

Acer Laptop problem

What must be happening is there are programmes and services running in the back ground and depending on how much memory you have installed all these things take up memory allocations. The graphics card when running just minimal programmes like word run at 8MB memory but when running games or dvd the card can run at 64MB of memory so take that off 256MB ogf memory if thats what you have fitted, minus the memory your programmes and services take it doesn't leave much. added with a processor speed of around 1.5GHZ it can make the system slow up if doing more than one thing at a time. Also check back to when this started and go to system restore and look to when it roughly started and see if windows did any updates, if so restore to before the update and see if it still happens.
