Unit was plugged in and on in demo mode with display banner ready to use but not used for several months. All functions like volume, radio, clock, lights and 3 changers and drawers seem to work. Load CD and press play on unit- no sound coming out of speakers. Set clock. Press enter on front of unit to stop demo mode according to manual. Press Play on remote and on unit. Still no sound. Tried another similar Panasonic bookshelf unit speaker. No sound. Add AM external radio antenna. Switch to tuner. No sound. Tried CD in other stereo - CD fine. Unplug and replug in speaker wires in unit and back of speakers. Change batteries in remote. Plug in to different outlet and then different power strip. Don't know if is thin speaker wires, or the unit internal sound controller, if it was hit by a power surge, if it is on mute for some reason, if there is a reset button - can't figure out why there is no sound!(unit was only used a couple times previously and worked fine. Item probably out of warrenty. Store no longer carries item. Any advice, directions to get help or assistance appreciated!

It definitely sounds like it took a surge. yhe Power Amop IC in those things are pretty sensitive. Any decent repair shop should be able to repair it for under $125.

When I put my ipod classic 80gb into the ipod dock the screen flashes "Please ipod check." I can play songs through the speakers if I manually do so on the ipod itself, but the controls on the remote or front of the stereo do not work.... any suggestions on how to fix this???
