Can't get closed caption when i'm playing a DVD

I have DVDs that have closed caption, but not subtitles. I thought maybe the DVDs actually didn't have closed caption since I couldn't get it to show up on my TV, but I let a friend use them and found out they do have closed captioning. How can I get the closed caption to show up on my TV ? If I click on caption on the remote, it says not available. Is it a problem with my settings in my TV ? or is it a problem with the settings on my DVD player? the player is only a year old so I would think it should be able to read closed caption. thanks...Don

It isn't showing up when you press the button on the remote because some DVDs list the caption/language options differently. The DVD itself determines many remote options. Just insert the DVD, go to the DVD settings/options, and select the appropriate option which may say closed captioned or English for the Hearing Impaired.

I had the same problem. My DVD was connected to my HD TV via a HDMI cable as was recommended by the DVD Owners Manual. I removed the HDMI cable and connected the three video component cables to the TV and DVD player. Closed captioning crossed immediately. Either my HDMI cable was defective or CC doesn't cross very well with a HDMI cable.

The DVD player has to have the decoding circuit built in. Most DVD players don't have this.

The DVD player needs to have the decoding built into it.

Can't turn on closed captioning and subtitles

If it's only with some DVDs, then the problem likely lies in the DVD itself not containing any subtitles or CC.

Closed Caption is turned on on DVD/VHS player, turned on through the TV. How do you turn the Closed Caption off on DVD

Closed captions only show when you're watching TV. If you're watching a DVD they're called subtitles. Both are controlled by a button on the remote. Closed captions are controlled by a button that's labeled "cc" or "ccd". Subtitles are controlled by a button that is labeled "subtitles" or "sub". Subtitles can also be turned off by going into the DVD setup menu.

By the numbers! How do I turn on the closed

there is no closed captions on dvds, you can use subtitles, very similar to closed captions. just load dvd
look into either extra features or subtitles

it would say "english for deaf/hard of hearing." or just plain english subtitle. either way, it works.

I need to activate CC for my Dad, Please help I have to go to work. I have a flat screen SOYO

Determine if closed captioning is available on the program that you've selected. In your program guide, the letters "CC" should appear at the end of the description.
Locate the closed captioning option on your remote. Some remotes have a "CC" button that you simply need to push to activate closed captioning
Locate the closed captioning option in your television's menu if there is no "CC" button on your remote. To do this, push the "menu" button on the remote control. The closed captioning option will probably be in the same section as the language function.
Set the closed captioning option to "on." Within several seconds, you should see the text appear on your screen.
To use closed captioning for DVDs, look for the "CC" label on the lower back section of the DVD case where it lists audio information. Turn on your TV's closed captioning and you should see the captioning like you do on a television program. Alternately, some DVDs include English subtitles that you can turn on in the setup/language menu of the DVD.
Thank you.

Close captioning is always on when playing DVDs.

I believe you have to turn the caption off on the DVD. Some dvd's automatically start with caption title. Check the manual for the DVD again.

Closed caption on dvds

Your TV will need to have (CC) capability. To view Closed Captioning (CC) information from a DVD using the CC function of the television, turn off the Progressive Scan function of the DVD player. If the DVD player doesn't have progressive scan then follow the instructions from your TV manual to setup closed captioning.
