My carborator shined when I opened it up.
    I replaced the oil.
Drained the gas tank and put fresh gas in.
    Replaced the air filter.
STILL It will crank only if I prime it, then instantly shut down.
Now what. It feels like the throttle is not working or something is not giving it gas.

Same Lawnboy. 2 yrs old. Pristine carb, never let gas stand over winter. Changed oil, air filter and spark plug religiously. Problem: Starts easily. Runs appx. 3-5 minutes. Abruptly shuts off like the safety lever is released. No warning, no sputtering. Excellent power, idle speed, not surging...then instantly shuts off. I am suspecting a temp related failure in the high voltage side of the solid state ignition coil. I don't think this is fuel related. Will be trying fix this week when parts store opens Mon.

I took my carburetor off and blew it out with compressed air. Runs great now. Make sure to get all of it. Little screw on bottom has a hole in it too!

Potentially the solid state ignition (part number 34443C).

This is csm2 again following up on my 11 May Guest comment (now I'm a member (csm2). I replaced solid state ignition (3444D (was rev C)) and this fixed the problem. Just mowed my 1/3 acre w/ no problems. I strongly recommend you do the spark test when in the warm fail condition and, if no spark, look into replacing that part. Hard to find part. Had to try several mower shops before I found it. Best luck.

Oil mixture for 1985f series 2 cycle lawn-boy mower

Contact your dealer ! but 32:1 sounds correct. 8 ounces of Lawnboy oil to two gallons of gasoline 32:1, 8 ounces of oil to one gallon of fuel is 16:1 for the real old lawnboys,

My lawnboy 10304 runs about one minute and shuts down. Any ideas?

It sounds like it is 2 stroke.
Carefully remove the carb bowl, by undoing the brass bolt.
Examine the brass bolt for a small pin-hole in the side.
Use a piece of corn-broom NEVER anything else !!! and poke the hole(S) to make sure they are clear.
Blow out with air if available.
You can use this method to clean out all the carb orifices carefully.

Hope it helps,

What is the 2 cycle oil to gas mixture for a 2 cycle lawnboy

20:1 gas to oil is a good place to start. Some mowers thin down to 80:1. If you can tell me the model of the mower I can be more specific, but starting at 20:1 will assure you have adequate protection for the engine. If it's exhausting lots of oil smoke after it has warmed up; you can cut back a little each time until you have minor oil smoke.

at 20:1 you need to add 6.4 ounces of oil to one gallon of gas.

Here's a nifty calculator for various ratios:

Enter 1 gallon of gas, then change the ratio number and then press calculate and the number of ounces per gallon will be displayed.
