Printer head cleaning

I've put new ink cartridges in, all colours, and the black isn't working. I've cleaned and cleaned it and still the black isn't coming thru. I read that your expert says to deep clean the printhead to someone who was having the same trouble with red, but it didn't say how to do this. Anyone know please?

Thank you so much for trying to sort this and explaining all this. I've tried it through a few times now and still no black. Think I must have messed it up with my cheaper cartridges then. Maybe time for a new printer. Wil definitely stick to the make of cartridge that belongs to the printer next time. Thanks, Gill

I own MFC 620CN and have the same problem with black ink. AT some step it stopped to work. Multiple cleaning with different black cartridges didn't resolve the issue.

Sometimes a cart doesnt work well because of mal manufacturing. Put in another brandnew black cart and do the cleaning cycle again. Its an advantage to use genuine brother carts! If you dont have any success try this: press menu then start/mono (b/w) then four times arrow up. maintenance should be displayed and the printer beeps. press arrow up til 7 is displayed. press enter. press arrow up til 6 in display. press enter. Display: Cleaning_All. press arrow up til 3 then enter: power_p all. Press start mono. machine starts power cleaning. After maintenance is displayed press arrow up til 0 (zero) then enter then 9 then enter. machine prints print quality sheet. In case there are only a few blocks in black repeat the above procedure. If you doesnt see neither any blocks in bk nor text after the second try be sure that your printhead is clogged and cant be cleaned anymore. This happens due to thirdparty ink which has pigmented ink instead of dye ink. Use only dye ink for brother printers!!!

    dont give up to early!
Just buy an original brother ink cart and try again once or twice. In my experience with several defective brother printers the second try is it!

If your print head is blocked, is the only solution to buy a new printer???

The nozzle may be blocked. So take out the colour cartridge and place its nozzle in a bit of water for about 10 mins. Bring it out and dab the nozzle with folded paper. If the tissue is blotted with the three colour it means you have unblocked the nozzle. Try now to print after returning the colour cartridge. You may need to repeat to get good results.

Thank you!!

The black print head is clogged. The reason why the black is clogged and not the photo black or any colors is that the black is pigment ink and the photo black and colors are dye based ink. The pigment ink is a particulate formulation that binds up when water is evaporated out of the ink. You need to buy a new print head the fix the problem. You can buy a new print head for $75 from precision

Brother mfc 5840 won't print clearly

you need to check the maintainence kit and see if it's full. Also if it isn't, use some iso-proponal alcohol and some q-tips to clean the print section of the cartridge and the cartridge tray.

Canon MP360 not printing

You probably need a new purge assembly, it draws some ink to both clean and prime the printhead. When it stops working you won't get any ink to the paper.

Ink Cartridge

Some of Epson's cartridges went bad that way. It may be a bad cartridge. Get a new one, pull that one out and see what happens. If it works, call Epson for a refund. They had a class action suit for that type of thing, they lost and paid off. I would think they will help you right away.

No Cartridge

i am sure this is the same problem as the 440cn. each cartridge has an optical window on it where the sensor measures the ink level. what u do is put a folded piece of paper over this window and reinsert the cartridge. this makes the sensor think that cartridge is full and should reset the ink meter. the printer should work fine.
