Craftsman air compressor will not start

I have a model 919.162121. 2hp 12 gallon. Last time i used it everything worked fine. I just got it out since last summer and when i plug the cord in nothing happens at all. No noise, nothing. Outlet is working fine. I used a volt tic and it read power into the place the cord goes. Other than that i have no clue what to even try. Please help!!

    No air in tank.

Couple of things i tried :

    - i used a volt meter where the power cord goes into and leave the switch. 80 volts on black and 40 volts on white.

    - i have not been able to get into the motor cause i need a torch screw driver and i couldn't find it earlier today. But i will try the reset on the motor once i can get the case off.

Is there any way i can bypass the pressure switch to see if that is the problem??

I am assuming that there is no air in the machine now. Otherwise it will not turn on if there is enough pressure in the tank.

If it will not start at all, the on/off switch on the pressure switch may not be turned on or it is defective.

You can also check the reset switch on the motor (red button).

These are very simple setups and it shouldn't take too long to troubleshoot.

I just bought a craftsman pneumatic 1/2-in drive impact wrench. And used it with my craftsman 4-gallon 1hp air compressor tried to loosen the bolts on my car wheel wouldn't loosen them help

Pneumatic tools are rated in cfm (cubic feet per minute). Your 1 HP air compressor is rated at probably not more than 3 cfm while the 1/2 " impact driver needs at least 8 cfm, maybe 12 chm of air.
The compressor must provide more chm than tool rating needs.
It is a problem, by the time you look at five horse power air compressors and larger, a lot of electric power is needed. A circuit of 220 volts, 20, 30, or more amps would be required to run those large expensive compressors.
If you can, return the air tool and get a good electric tool instead.
Leave those high air volume air tools to shops that are so equipped to use, or invest if you must.

Hi Jim,

Disconnect your main air supply from the comp head to the receiver/tank and see if their is a reasonable air supply to atmosphere.

If not check that air is being taken in by the head intake filter

My new 80 gallon Craftsman Professional air compressor's oil turned dark right away. I changed the oil and it happened again. Is there a problem? Thanks, Trevor

Problem sounds like the type of oil being used. The oil should be a gold color. It will get dark over time but not like oil in a car. Check your owners manual to be sure that the right oil is being used.

Compressors use a 30 weight non detergent oil. If you don't have a manual Go to any Sears Home and garden Department and they will be able to help you.

Hi, my name is John. Welcome to FixYa. Will it come on at all? Check the outlet circuit breaker, if it comes on at all, check where the line comes form the pump to the tank, there got to be a leak, you may have to remove it in order to check under it. Check for a reset button next to the wire coming to the switch. Thanks for choosing FixYa...John

Power on are compressor, hear buzz, but pump did not start .

if its just humming and not starting you may have a motor start capacitor on the motor thats bad and can't supply the starting voltage against the compressor

Craftsman compressor won't cycle off

Hi, First, I think the cutoff pressure is 135psi and there is an overpressure valve so let it run a little longer. I don't know exactly which model you have ( some of these were oil less) but if it is running longer than you remember, be sure to check the oil if necessary, make sure you are not using a long extension as this will cause the motor to slow down and definitely check to make sure the water is drained and the drain petcock is closed all the way. Also check it without an air hose attached. Good Luck!
