Either the main power fuse is blown, or the power transformer is bad. If the fuse is blown, then there are probably shorted output transistors in the amp section that need to get replaced.

If it clicks twice almost instantly (on then off within 1/2second) then its got a serious power supply imbalance.
If it clicks on then 5secs later clicks off then one of the amplifier channels has probably failed and the protection circuit is tripping it off to protect itself.
THIS UNIT HAS BAD SOLDER CONNECTIONS ON REGULATOR TRANSISTORS,REMOVE BOTTOM AND YOU WILL SEE THE BAD CONNECTIONS.ALSO BE SURE TO RE-TIGHTEN ALL CHASSIC GRD SCREWS AS THIS WILL ALSO CAUSE THE SAME PROBLEM.
Does the receiver work OK? These are probably electromechanical switches (called relays) which yamaha uses a lot. They use electricity to connect/disconnect something by magnetic force and this causes the "clicks". It is used for example to connect the speakers to the output of apmlifier only after it has finished initializing to protect both the amp and the speakers. When I turn on my RX-V465 I hear at least one click, it is probably connecting power to the amp. When turning it on with Radio button on remote I hear 3 clicks over 2-3 seconds. So these clicks are normal and nothing to worry about. They occur also when you switch to the PURE DIRECT mode.
Disconnect all your speaker wires at the receiver and turn back on, if you get the same result, it's a transistor and several caps. Cost range from 150-225 depending on the shop. If it stays on, post a comment and I will walk you thru troubleshooting further.
