RAM to buy?

Hi. This may be a really stupid question, but here goes. I want to upgrade my memory with two DDR2 533 memory chips, but when I look online (like at Best Buy), and put in those paramaters, it keeps bringing up "PC2-5300 DDR2 Memory", compatible with PC2-3200 and PC2-4200 slots. The motherboard doesn't say anything about what kind of memory, just says DDR2 400 or 533 chips. Will these chips that are coming up on my search work, or not? Help please!

Those numbers are related with the speed they transfer data. PC2-5300 is 667 MHz ram. downgrade of ram is ok..you cam run a 667MHz freely at 555 MHz. here are some more details for you. click here.

Both DDR2 400 & 533 will work but 533 will be a little faster. If you will buy it in pairs (two chips with same size and speed and better from same manufacturer ) they may work even faster.

Please consult this article for a clarification of nomenclature, even though it's written for DDR. One is a standard name, based on the clock speed (x2), and the other is the module name. I've always like the Crucial memory advisor, for it's precision. click here
And I've had very good luck with their memory, as well.
If you have further questions, you might find this tutorial helpful: DDR2 MemTut

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue. If you need further assistance, please post back with a comment to this thread.
If I've managed to answer your question or solve a problem, please take just a moment to rate this post....thanks!
