Question about Dell Inspiron 1501 Notebook

1 Answer

My inspiron 1501 battery no longer would hold a charge. Bought a new one from Dell... no instructions. I just need a few step by step directions, since dell seems to assume I know, and didn't include steps. Thanks ruthieonline

Hi ruthie. turn the laptop over and you will see a sliding button in the u pper left area. slide it over to open the battery compartment. then just lift out the old battery and insert the new one. replace the cover and plug in your computer to charge the battery.

Inspiron 1501 charging problem

should find out why the original charger stopped working in the first place... was it a faulty mother board really. anyway if the ratings on the charger you bought are for that laptop indeed, then it should power up the laptop minus the battery. ofcourse if you put in charger minus battery, dont expect it to show the charging led..just try to power it on
Regards

Dell Inspiron 1501 new battery purchased in September and now won't hold a charge

The battery should be protected if you purchased it from Dell or a reseller offering warranty. You should compare all information on both batteries to ensure you have the right one. Just because it fits does not always mean it is the proper battery.

I get the message ''The model number for the primary battery cannot be determined. This will prevent any battery present from charging i've flashed the new bios recommended by dell to stop the battery...

The Battery LED is indicating a battery failure. So the next step is to replace it. The battery life is generally 300 to 500 discharge/recharge cycles. So it appears a replacement battery is due.

My Dell Inspiron 1501 won't charge

If you're covered, Dell can replace the power converter on the motherboard for you. Yes, I have experience with this and yes, that should fix it.

Replacement battery for Dell Inspiron 1501 won't charge

If your old battery was doing the same (not charging), then is is because the charger is not charging the battery. Do you have a friend with a Dell laptop? Maybe you can use a borrowed charger to test and see if it will charge the batteries. To answer your question , no Dell does not have anything built in to prevent you from using a 3rd party battery.
If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe

The battery has outlived it's charging cycle and can no longer be used.  Replacement batteries can be obtained at dell.com, Radio Shack, Batteries Plus, or EBay (I've been ripped off a few times buying them that way though).  Batteries Plus usually has good prices on them.
