Question about Samsung HLN567W 56" Rear Projection HDTV

Samsung HLN567W wavy lines

I went to watch a DVD movie the other day and when the player fired up the video had wavy lines running through it. Even without a video in the player , the wavy lines show. This is using the S-Video input. I disconnected the player and used the component inputs with the same problem. My DVD player only has those 2 options.. I hooked up another player and still had the same problem. The DVI input works just fine with my DirectTV box hooked up to that input. It seems as though I'm getting some kind of interference with the S-Video and component inputs.

Check to see if your DVD player is outputing a progressive scan and turn it off if you are using the S-Video cable, it does not support progressive scanning.

I just bought a samsun 40 inch tv and I wanted to watch cd movies but I can't find dvd player, I thought all tv had them now, how can I watch cd movies, do I have to get a dvd player to hook up to the tv?

Yes, you would need a dvd player or some sort of additional media player. They have alot of different kinds out now. You can even use your cable box to order movies, or you can even use a device that will stream movies instantly such as netflix.

Have Samsung HLN567W and recently started having

Projection TV sets have two very common problems listed below.

Problem #1) Convergence

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony, Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai,Pioneer, Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith and others.
You can get more information and a DIY convergenece repair kit with instructions from the link below.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

*Screen Looks 3-D
*Colors wont align
*Screen may look distorted or warped
*No Audio/Video - TV Shuts down - May also make a constant chirping sound

Problem #2 - Another common problem is dull or washed out video.

Your set may have one or more of the following symptoms....

*Dull looking picture
*White looking picture
*Halos around objects
*Red/Orange looking picture

Pink and green lines while watching a movie

if this is only happening on your dvd player, then change the type of cable used to link the tv with the dvd player, if that does not fix it then try another dvd player to make sure it's not the player itself

Try the DVD player on another component connection on the TV. If the picture is still distorted try another DVD player or something with component output. If thre picture is normal with another input device then the issue is the DVD player,

Wavy lines

Are the wavy lines horizontal or vertical? If they are horizontal and up near the top of the screen it could be 60HZ interference from a power cord running over the cable from the DVD player to the TV. There could also an internal breakdown of the shielding by the power supply of the DVD player. If the lines are vertical it is likely the cable or maybe the input jack on the TV. Could be a number of things.

Red lines when watching DVD

Regardless of what inputs you use when the lines appear, that symptom suggests that the Proscan Module Samsung p/n#BP95-00140T is probably defective. That board is a plug and play replacement but there are no short-cuts to testing it to be certain that's the problem or the entire problem. That said, the top of the metal shield lifts off and the board can be pulled with no greater skill than a first year technician. The board is $184.25 plus shipping from Vance Baldwin - so if you're feeling lucky you could try this one yourself... Just be careful. If you have ANY questions drop me a note at premtech@willapabay.org and include the model number. Hope this helps Bill Good luck
