I changed the power supply and now it is saying that the hard drive was not found

The power supply went out. I put in a new power supply and it is now saying the hard drive was not found. Is it because I connected the wires wrong? It says consult the users guide but there is nothing in the users guide to help me.

When the PC power off without normal shutdown, the Hard Disk can become corrupted. You can try these steps in Safe Mode (pressing F8 before the Windows logo appears).
1) Select START>Run...
2) in the resulting window type: chkdsk
It may repair any errors on the hard disk. If it fails, you may boot from your Windows CD (as if you were to install Windows), but choose Repair using the recovery console. Once in the console (the mouse is not used there), type:
1) fixboot, confirm typing "Y", and wait until it is finished.
2) fixmbr, confirm typing "Y", and wait...
3) Type EXIT to restart, and remove the CD from th drive. You PC may be up and running.

Its not possible to connect a power cable to the hard drive incorrectly. If you have connected the power cable make sure you have also connected the data cable between the hard drive and the mother board.

Hope this helps.,

Solution:
First, disconnect the power cable from the back of the external hard drive:
If the power supply LED continues to blink:
  1. Connect the power supply to a different outlet (or instead of connecting to a power strip, connect directly to an outlet in the wall).

  2. If the power supply continues to blink after changing outlets, this indicates that the power supply is defective and needs to be replaced.

  3. If the power supply stays solid, then reconnect to the external hard drive and see if the drive spins.

Dell inspiron 5150 primary hard drive disk 0 not found

You may find that either the cable is not connected properly or is faulty, or the worse case the mother board has problems (driver, chips, breakages)
May even be a power supply problem, as the power supply has many output points and different voltages that the HDD power out may have blown. If it has then the rest of the system will appear to be ok.
So first off, check the cables connections on the motherboard, and look for any breaks in the cables, and if you have a power meter of some sort check the power connection, or plug in another power connector, the ones with the same end are generally the same power outputs. The ribbon cable for the HDD should have 2 sockets for HDDs and you must connect your HDD to the end one.

External hard drive problem!

yes u can try checking the power supply of the casing
try other power supply of same capacity
if there is no solution for problem u can try changing the casing
if both the things are working fine then you will have to check the hard drive connecting directly to the computer internally

Power supply

Get a new external carrier, new external drive, or find a power supply that puts out the same voltage and at least the same current. If you cannot find a power supply with the same connector you can cut the cables on the new power supply and the old one and splice the connector from the old power supply on.

BTW please try to put some more specific information when asking about a problem. The more info the easier it is to solve.
