Question about Whirlpool ET8WTKXK Top Freezer Refrigerator
PURCHASED IN 2001 FROM LOWE'S. WAS UNABLE TO FIND THE EXACT MODEL NUMBER - TYPE NUMBER IS C18TFA01 LAST NIGHT SMELLED A BURNING TYPE SMELL IN KITCHEN. THINK IT MAY BE FROM REFRIDGERATOR. MY HUSBAND CLEANED IT UNDERNEATH SEEMS TO WORK JUST FINE, BUT NOW THERE IS A SLIGHT CLICKING NOISE (LIKE COMPRESSOR OR SOMETHING) THAT KEEPS GOING OFF EVERY SO OFTEN, NEVER NOTICED BEFORE. NO ODOR NOW EITHER. ANY IDEAS?

How long had it been plugged in when you started to smell the burn. What kind of burn do you smell, is it an electrical burning smell or a smoldering dust burning smell.

SOURCE: not cooling
The clicking you are hearing is your overload on your start system sounds like your compresser start ststem is out..or your compresser is locked up the only way to tell is to ohm out the compresser idf you dont have a meter you can install a start kit like a Supco Pro41 or a RCO410 or a factory replacement and see if it starts up the compresser.. Have you cleaned the condenser at all ??? although this will not fix the compresser it can be a cause of overheating..The part Number you need is a 2188831 for the factory replacemenet ($22.56)the supco parts part number SU RCO410 ($15.00) the Pro41 is part #
SU PRO41 ($17.97) you can get them at your local parts house they are all easy to change or if you dont have a parts house close you can oder it on the web at www.apdepot.com Hope this fixes ya

SOURCE: chemical odor...
try putting crumpled newspaper in it daily to get rid of the smell, the coolant if leaking should not cause any horrible smell, Freon they use today has very little smell to it. Frost free units have
heaters and fans in them to keep them frost free. It could be that a
fan quit and the heater overheated something around it."
Let me know if this helps, good luck

If the compressor has a fan next to it, be sure it is running. if the relay is clicking every few minutes it may need to be replced. contact local parts distributor.

u may need to unplug it then tip it enough to see under it to see if maybe a mouse chewed on some wires and try to rewire or electic tape on some bare wires
