Try this if your problem sounds the same or similar:

I purchased the HP-Compaq C765TU Presario, serial # CND81233B5, from Octagon Computers. My notebook came with only "Freedos" because I was going to Dual-boot Windows XP Professional & Linux, but I found out that my notebook is only “Vista Compatible,” because I could not find the drivers for the sound card & Atheros wireless adapter & the Linux I used, Ubuntu does not have all the drivers needed, so I uninstalled, & I added the only Windows Vista OS that I could get here at Octagon Computers in Tacloban City, Leyte, Philippines, “Windows Vista Starter!” (I’m an American married to a beautiful Filipino woman 1 year younger than me, & we are living in the Philippines. I’m, also, Retired USAF.) I went to the HP-Compaq site & downloaded all the new drivers and essential update for my notebook to make sure my notebook was as it should be by HP-Compaq standards. All is well, but only for a little while!

The first problem that I encountered was that after I would Logon, the Welcome screen would do its processing then go to a blank desktop with the cursor - no icons, no taskbar, nothing, so I used “control, alt, delete” to bring up the tasks page & started Task Manager. I found that the “Explorer.exe” was not listed, so I ran a “New Task” from the file menu, & my whole desktop came up. The notebook runs fine after this is done, but I had to do it all the time.

So, I found & bought a copy of Windows Vista Ultimate on the Internet & was forced to do a clean install because it was a full version (not an upgrade), which formatted my Hard-drive, but I had backed up all my files ahead of time, so as to not lose all my important data. I went back to HP-Compaq site & downloaded all the new drivers and essential update to make sure my notebook was as it should be by HP-Compaq standards. After doing this New Install, my notebook worked perfectly! However, the same problem has come back as I had with Windows Vista starter.

I have always used Anti-virus, and I run “System Mechanic Professional 8” because it has all the tools needed to seek & destroy viruses, spybots, etc…, & recover/repair data.

I have never had this problem with Windows XP Professional, but this laptop is designed for Vista, and I didn't know that before I bought it. I'm still looking for a permanent FIX. There must be a way to fix this problem permanently!

Here is how to fix the blank screen with cursor:

Most likely a damaged or altered registry entry. Clicks start and type
'regedit' and hit . Expand the keys at left to reach:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

Click on this key, then locate the shell string in the right pane. Double
click it, replace the contents with just:

    explorer.exe

Click ok, then close the registry editor and reboot.

This is probably a case for the f8 key. Press F8 repeatedly on startup between the bios identifying your computer and windows loading. Last known configuration may take you back to when the computer last worked, or you may be able to do some troubleshooting in Safe Mode. For the inexperienced user then the simplest way to revive a failed XP installation is to boot off the Windows CD (if you have one) and to re-install windows on top of the existing installation. Choose to install windows and the program should list the existing installation. Repair this installation and you should retain all your settings and programs.

oops sorry, I didn't see you were using Vista, but I don't think the options are very different.

Cant find scanned document on my Aspire how do i find?

Going with it's an Acer Aspire 5315 Notebook PC, which according to Acer Support comes with Windows XP (Home or Pro), or several basic versions of Windows Vista,

http://support.acer.com/acerpanam/notebook/0000/Acer/Aspire5315/Aspire5315sp2.shtml

WinXP:
1) Desktop screen

2) My Documents; Click on Start, then on My Documents

3) Downloads; Click on Start, then on My Documents. DOUBLE-click on Downloads.

Win Vista:
1) Desktop screen

2) Documents; Click on the Windows logo button, then on Documents

3) Downloads; Click on the Windows logo button, then on Documents. Then click on Downloads.

Anyway you can try scanning a document again, and see where scanned files go? Then delete the scanned file.
Look at the window, and what is stated at the top. This is where the scanned file will go.

Acer Aspire 5610Z. Upgraded to Win 7. Screen resolution changes

Hello,

Your laptop was not designed to run windows 7 or be compatible with it. It may run fine with windows 7 but issues might come up sooner or later like the one you're experiencing.

[EXPERIMENTAL]
Download both of these (as I don't know which one of thsese two your laptop needs). Keep mind that doing the following could render your system inoperable and use at own risk. When downloaded, extract ZIP , open desired folder and find SETUP or INSTALL program. Right click and choose properties, then navigate to compatibility mode, then select windows Vista from the menu. Then apply changes, ok and close window and attempt to start.

Bluetooth button does'nt light up any more and i cant find the driver for it on acers support site for the 5610z

This is Acer Support home page,

http://gd.panam.acer.com/home/

1.In the box under the heading -> Select Product Family, click on Notebook.

2.In the next box that comes up, Select Product Line, click on Aspire.

3.In the next box, Select Product Model, scroll it down to 5610z, and click on 5610z.

4.There's your Bluetooth driver.

5.Click on the orange square icon with a Down Arrow in it, to the left of the Bluetooth file name.
A small window will come up.

6.If the empty circle to the left of ->Save File, does not have a green dot in it, click on this empty circle. Now go below and click on OK.

After you download the driver, it will be saved to your desktop screen, if you do not have your downloads set, to go to your My Documents folder. You may want to write down the driver file name, before you click on OK.

In either your My Documents folder, or if it is on your desktop screen, double-click on the file to open it.
Now follow the Installation Wizard.
After you're done, close all windows until you are back to your desktop screen. Now restart your computer.

Your problem could be windows vista isnot installed properly
i assume in the beginning, your laptop come with windows xp.
if you want to go back to windows xp, you can still use alt+f10, as long as you don't delete the recover partition.
Just boot and press Alt+F10, it'll give you recover screen.
