USB Modem Model NSMODX2

I am using Windows XP operating system. When I boot up with the modem plugged in to the USB port windows shuts down. The message on the screen tells me there is a problem with AGRSM.sys file. If I plug the modem in after booting up the modem works fine.

Error I get when logging on is the BSOD stating Page Fault In nonpaged area, unplug from USB port, boot and all works fine. Is it possible that the Agrsm.sys file is not compatable with XP, due to getting the message that software has not passed Windows Logo testing to verify compatibility?

I will try the uninstall and reinstall method first.

Internet Modem does not switch off on shut down

It is not easy to see exactly what you are saying but lets see if I can be of assistance.

If your modem is external to the computer (box plugged into the PC via a cable) then the modem staying on is normal.
If you are on high speed this is expected and you do not have to turn it off

If the light on the back of the computer is right next to where the cable from the modem plugs in then the light being on is again normal and that place where the cable from the modem plugs in is NOT a usb port.

There may be some usb ports quite near which may confuse you a little

Even if the computer is off some of the newer computers have the facility that can wake them up if they get a special signal down that particular cable. This is know as WOL or Wake On Lan and is nothing to be worried about.

Modem issue

a mother board is a big thing to replace. you may want to just buy another computer if thats the case. it may also be the way it hooks up. is it a card. if it's a card thta slot maybe shorting it out. if so try a diffrent slot. my best advice is move away from dial up all together.

Installing wireless modem

To download the most appropriate modem driver for your Windows XP computer, a few steps is indispensible to finish the whole process.

Step 1
Look at the modem. Write down the make and model. If you have a dial-up modem in your computer, take the panel on the tower off. Shine the flashlight on the device. On the circuit board, the manufacturer and/or model number is present.

Step 2
Locate an Internet connection. To download Windows XP modem drivers, go to the library or someone's home where the Internet is able to connect. If you have another working modem in your house, you can download them directly to your computer.

Step 3
Go to the manufacturer's official website or a Windows XP modem driver's web page. Windows XP Drivers, Drivers Kit and Driver Support Registry have modem drivers for the Windows XP operating system.

Step 4
Click on the modem device. Select the manufacturer of the modem. Some of the driver sites are XP only, while others are all drivers. You will have the chance to choose your operating system before downloading. Click on the "Download" tab. Wait approximately 10 minutes, depending on the speed of the PC and Internet connection.

Step 5
Burn it to a disk. If you are at another location, you need to burn to CD/DVD for transportation.
