Accidentally erased all images on image card

I selected SETUP in the menu and when the process was finished NO PICTURE was displayed on the screen. There was no warning that SETUP would erase the images on the card. I have not attempted to take any pictures since that happened in the hope that the images can be retrieved.

As long as the xD card was not formatted it is possible to recover the images that were accidently erased,lost or corrupted. You can go to the following website link and download an image recovery software program that is free of charge.
http://www.z-a-recovery.com/
You want to download a program called Zero Assumption Recovery. It is a very simple program to use and many people have had much success in recovering lost images.

Data recovery is a booming industry, and many appropriate services and software can be found by searching regional phone and business directories or the Internet for terms such as "image recovery" or "data recovery".

I took pictures on my camera without a memory card can i still download my pictures

I'm glad to provide the steps to transfer images from Internal Memory of the Camera. When the camera does not have a memory card in it, the images are saved by default to the camera's internal memory, which holds different amounts of images based on how many megapixels are built into the internal memory and what image quality and compression are selected in the camera's menu. Once a memory\picture card is inserted in the camera, the camera then saves the photos to the memory\picture card and ignores the internal memory.

There are two ways to transfer the images from the internal memory.

  • To transfer photos to a computer from the internal memory using the USB cable, first remove the memory card from the camera. Then, when the camera is connected, the computer and software will only see what is in the internal memory and transfer those photos or videos. During the transfer process, the computer makes copies of the photos and videos-the original images remain in the internal memory. After the transfer is complete and the camera is safely disconnected from the computer, the contents of the internal memory can be deleted by using the MEMORY FORMAT function in the SETUP menu in the camera's menus.

  • The other way to transfer photos from the internal memory is to transfer them to the memory\picture card using the BACKUP function in the SETUP menu. If there is no memory\picture card in the camera, the BACKUP function is grayed-out. During BACKUP, copies of the images are transferred to the memory\picture card-the original images remain in the internal memory. After the BACKUP is complete, the internal memory can be cleared by removing the memory\picture card and formatting the internal memory using the MEMORY FORMAT function in the SETUP menu in the camera's menus.

Note: When the camera is connected to a computer using the USB cable with a memory\picture card in the memory\picture card slot, the computer will only see the contents of the memory\picture card.

Thanks for understanding. Please let me know if you require any additional help.

My camera keeps saying the card is full when its brand new

Hi,
You just need to format the memory card. And make sure that you are in memory card option for the picture storage when you take pictures.
Formatting the memory card This function will format the memory card and will erase all files in memory including files that have been protected. Note: Once formatted all the images stored in the memory will be erased. This process is irreversible. Please download all images to the PC before formatting the card. 1. Touch the icon (arrow down) function area until you see the “Format” option.
2.Touch the icon (memory card drawing/picture) function area to enter the Format menu.
3.Touch the icon (arrow left) function area to select OK/Cancel.
4.Press the Menu/OK button to confirm.
5.A Format message will appear on the LCD.

6.Touch the icon (arrow right) or (Arrow left) function area to select Yes or No.

I downloaded some pictures to my school computer and now my camera won't take any pictures. Message is Memory card write protected.

SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card. If the switch is already in the proper position, slide it fully the other way and then back again.

If that doesn't work, try another card.

Need to delete memory

You need to remove the memory card from the camcorder and place it into a pc or photo shops computer. This will allow you to view the saved items on the memory card. You can then save these to disc and delete the contents on the card.

I want to erase a video, but not "erase all images"

Careful, the way you're doing it would actually erase everything. Use that way only after you've downloaded all your pictures and videos to your computer.

The way to erase a single image or video is to go into picture/video review mode. Advance so that you can see the video you want to delete on your LCD screen. Then press the "trashcan" button on the back of your camera once. It may ask you "delete this video?". Select "yes".

Help

Hi,

Yes and in several methods as below listed. Since your posting refers to a generic problem for all digital cameras and not only an Olympus FE-230, some of the settings may have a different nomenclature or button name.
1. When you download pictures to you PC, rather than copy, select move; or
2. If you want to erase one picture at a time from the camera - press on the power button, then menu button, once menu is displayed, arrow down/up, you will be asked to erase the picture displayed, select yes/no by up/down, then press OK (menu button); or
3. If you want to erase all contents of the memory card of the camera - press on the power button, then menu button, once menu is displayed, arrow right, down to select card, right to select card setup, right to enter card setup, arrow down to select format or erase all, OK. Erase all just erases the files, format erases all and re-initialize the memory card; or
4. Remove memory card from camera and insert into a memory card reader attached to USB of your PC. The memory from the camera will be treated as a removable device and you can view, move, copy, delete/erase, format. This option seems to be most effective in viewing all contents under Windows Explorer with the view setting set to Thumbnail.
5. Connect the camera via the supplied cable to any USB port of your PC. The camera will be treated as a removable device and you can view, move, copy, delete/erase, format. This option seems to be most effective in viewing all contents under Windows Explorer with the view setting set to Thumbnail.

Specifically for an Olympus FE-230:
1. Press the < or > buttons to display the picture you want to erase;
2. Press the trash can button (bottom right);
3. Press the UP button to select [YES], press OK;

or

To erase all:
1. Press the MENU button to display the top menu in playback mode;
2. Select [ERASE], [ALL ERASE], and press OK;
3. Select [YES], and press OK

Hope this be of help/idea. Pls post back should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Select FORMAT from the list and press the ENTER button. 6. "ALL FILES ARE DELETED! FORMAT REALLY?" appears on the screen. 7. Using the MENU DIAL, select the item. NO : To return to previous menu YES : To start formatting. 8. Press the ENTER button. If you selected the YES, COMPLETE! appears on the screen when the MEMORY CARD formatting is finished. 9.
