a tech would be fairly expensive a simple convergence repair is usually about 400.00 most repairs can be handeld as long as a good tech gives the proper techniques and warnings of what to do and what not to do.It does involve soldering and unsoldering

On a panasonic if its a "3" blink pattern its usualy a sign that the convergnce hsa failed. When this happens the tV will commonly shut down. You will need to call in a repair shp or get the parts from sites like www.TvRepairKits.com or just google convergence repair kit.

this and a few other related models have a common problem; C509 on the deflection board fails, if it opens you will have a picture that closes until you just have a faint band of light to the right of the middle of the screen; if it shorts then the sweep transistor will be shorted and usually you will have nothing.

C509 is brown in color and located near the yoke plugs----some will fail and that cap will have a crack in it. I have seen several where it opened and got the output transistor at the same time.
If the output was still good you would have sound like I think you did in the beginning.
If you have a multi-meter (ohms etc) check the output transistor from center pin to the outer ones---no reading from center pin to other two.

I do not know you skill level.

Panasonic PT-53X54J Rear Projection TV. Suddenly shut off just before went black with a color line down the middle. When turned back on makes clicking noise and can't power on for about 3 minutes then cuts...
That is the classical sound of a Switchmode power supply, detecting an "Over current" situation and shutting down, for "Safety" reasons, like fire explosion etc. I get these in the shop frequently, (actually they seldom get to the shop, more, we go to them, as they are so BIG) This is a common occurrence. But can have many, many causes, the Power Supply shutting down, is a "Symptom", of the actual "Cause". Unfortunately, as related there are many areas that can cause this to happen. It literally can be in any section, or part of the circuit. really, the only way to effect a fix, is to first get a Service Manual. It is well worth the price it costs to get one. Simply Google the name off your TV, and add the words "service manual" after, Panasonic PT-53X54 service manual The manual gives service algorithms, to work through, to isolate the problem. It is still quite a challenge in any event. Rear projection TV's do have what seems to be a higher failure rate than the "Normal" TV's. Also they seem to be more expensive to repair. If you decide to get a repair ensure you get a firm "Quote" before proceeding. No "Quote" no job. If you choose to do it yourself.. good luck

I turn on the tv it beeps about 10 times no picture then shuts down
the beeping would be due to a failed power supply unit inside or a fuse there-of i would check this out before making costly repairs that will not work in the long run, hook me up with a good rating and have a good day!

i have a model #pt-53wx42f when you first turn the t.v. on it gets shakey and distorted then it shuts down and the power button light starts flashing

Has anyone had problems with connecting an 'HDMI to HDMI + SPDIF + RCA L / R Audio Extractor Converter (HDMI input,HDMI+ Audio output)' to a Panasonic PT-53TW53? I have a TiVo Premiere hooked up to my Panasonic PT-53TW53. I use the HDMI out, and RCA R+L outputs on the TiVo, and hook up to the digital in connections on the TV. The conversion of the HDMI out is via an HDMI to DVI cable. This has worked perfectly for years, but recently I wanted to disconnect the TiVo and replace with my Roku or Amazon Fire TV. Both have a single HDMI output. So I purchased an AGPtek HDMI to HDMI + SPDIF + RCA L / R Audio Extractor Converter (HDMI input, HDMI+ Audio output) box, hooking up the HDMI output from the Roku or Fire TV to the input on the extractor/converter, and simply disconnecting the HDMI to DVI and RCA R+L outputs from the TiVo, and plugging them into the outputs on the converter/extractor. The converter/extractor has a 3 position switch: PASS, 2CH audio, or 5.1CH (via and SPDIF or Toslink cable). I have had 2 of these converter/extractors, and with both the Roku and Fire TV I got the same results with both converter/extractors: With the switch on 2CH, which is where I understand I should get HDMI video and 2CH RCA audio, all I get is the RCA audio. No video. If I switch to PASS I get video with no audio. Of course on the 5.1 setting I get nothing, since the TV does not support SPDIF. Yet I see reviews all over Amazon indicating folks are using this converter/extractor for this very purpose, and it is working fine. I can't possibly imagine that it is some sort of incompatibility issue with the TV, since the TiVo has worked (and continues to) fine for years. Any ideas?
