The "wedge" of the plastic lever wears, so you need to replace the lever or build up that section of the lever. Some cyanoacrylate (Super Glue / Krazy Glue) and a piece of a zip tie will work.

Remove nuts mounting recoil assembly. Observe how rope is wound around pulley. Find end knot in pulley wheel. Cutoff end knot and remove old rope. Find end knot in handle, use needle nose pliers pull thru old rope. Rope is sold by the foot at mower repair shops. Replace rope as observed before removal. Cut to size after wrapping recoil assembly and attaching thru handle at proper length if at recoil assembly or on mower handle. Ensure good knot in hole of recoil assembly and handle.

My handle broke off. Where can I get a new

I would consider asking around at repair shops to find another handle for a sensible price. Or...someone at one of those shops might be able to weld the handle back together?

The on/off switch (handle) does not work. How can I get it fixed?

As many others have noted, the orange switch lever pivots on a plastic pin which breaks off within two years of normal use. I found a 3/16" steel rod at my local home center in the same bin where threaded rod and angle iron are kept. I'm sure brass or alumium rod would work as well. I cut off a 1.7" length of the rod using a hacksaw and deburred the end by rubbing it on a flat file.

Before working on the mower, take off the cover, disconnect one battery lead, and secure it so it can't reach the battery terminal. You don't want the mower to start up while you are working on it.

Now diassemble the switch housing. On the part of the housing where the switch is located, find where the original plastic pin broke off. If the pin didn't break off cleanly, trim it flush with a file or sharp knife, then drill a 3/16" hole to a depth of 0.45". Be careful to center the hole. I started with a small pilot bit, then enlarged the hole to 3/16". Put some tape on your bit to keep from going too deep. The plastic drills easily.

The rest is easy. Insert your replacement metal pin, reassemble everything, and test. Give the rest of the rod to a friend who owns the same mower.

Handle and pin broke the valve stem. Have a replacement.

Hammer and punch...drift out the pin. Be careful to note the orientation of the handle to the key assemble, assembling it backwards realigns the settings on the valve backwards...not a good thing.

I need to replace a battery in the Black & Decker CMM1000 cordless lawn mover but I can't find any directions. Can someone help me?

The battery in my CMM1000, purchased in 2003, finally gave up early in the summer of 2009. I bought a replacement battery at the local DeWalt store for about $140 including tax. The original battery was comprised of two Panasonic 12Volt, 20Amp-hour units in series. The replacement battery is comprised of two BR 12Volt, 17Amp-hour batteries in series. To replace the battery, simply remove two Torx screws toward the front on top of the black cover and two more, one on each side of the cover down next to the orange base toward the rear. It is not necessary to remove the two screws near the charge indicating meter. Cut the first two or three tiewraps holding the "throttle" cable to the push handle so as provide some slack. Lift the black cover up and over the height adjusting handle. Do that and everything else to be described here while working from the opposite side of the machine. The cover will not come all the way off and it is not necessary for it to do so. It will lift up far enough to allow removal of two pieces of styrofoam, one between the battery and the motor, the other between the battery and the inside rear of the housing, and the battery. The battery is held down by a fabric strap that is attached to the base of the machine with a screw on each side. Remove the one opposite the height adjuster. The battery will then be "loose" except for the two electrical wires that connect it to the machine. Lift and rotate the battery so as to present easy access to the terminals. I used my B&D drill motor with the appropriate socket to remove the flanged nuts retaining the cables. The battery can be removed from the machine once the cables are disconnected. Reverse the above procedures to install the new battery. Important note: The throttle cable has to go under the front styrofoam piece... the black cover will not go all the way down until the cable is in the right place. One might be tempted to push harder and that could lead to real trouble, so be sure the cable is under the styrofoam. The CMM1000 is an excellent machine in my opinion, and the ton or so that it weighs provides a good workout for me that I personally enjoy.

I have a black & decker lawnhog mm875 lawn mower that just stopped working. the power to the mower is good. can you help

I had the same problem. Its the switch.

When you pull the plastic handle up, it pushes down a button switch located in the handle. Over time (and with use) the parts begin to wear and the handle is no longer aligned properly with the button. So, ........ when you pull the handke up the button is not pushed in far enough to start the mower.

I want to bypass the handle and hard wire the mower but I can't find a wiring diagram.
