Matshita UJ-852S can't detect Sony blank DVD-R on Sony VGNSZ48-GN laptop

I have been usding Sony laptop model VGNSZ-48GN for almost 2 years. My laptop was bought from Malaysia. I have this strange issue. I have bought blank Sony DVD-R from country Qatar as i'm based here. I have this issue my Matshita UJ-852S DVD was unable to detect the blank DVD-R. It was reading for a while and just stop there. Funny thing, the Sony DVD-R i bought from Malaysia was working fine in my laptop. I went back to one of the Sony showroom in Qatar and it was working for the DVD-R bought in Qatar. I tried updated the firmwave at Sony website to 1.5 but it still has the same issue. Kindly assist.

Need a driver for matshita dvd-ram UJ-852S

Optical drives do not require any driver when used in Vista\XP\7. Support that allows this drive to read a data or music disk is included with the OS. Support that allows this drive to play a DVD movie disk comes from installing compatible DVD decoding software.
Alternatively you can try this:
I hope this helps.

Matshita DVD-Ram UJ-810 I/O Device Error with most DVDs Cds

i'd actually rather recommend trying another external dvd writer. The model/make doesn't matter. take it into a pc repair shop, let them connect an external dvd writer. if it works, and you buy it they won't charge extra, if it doesn't work, well, they can't charge you either

Drive cant write any disc

If the unit was working ok and suddenly the unit stop to read the blank disk, the problem could be related to a dirty lector (need to clean) or unit firmware (need to be updated)
In that case you can update your firmware here:

1) You have to use a blank "recordable disk" to allow your drive write a disk
2) Not all disks are compatible
3) Try differents brand
4) Clean your drive lector
5) Update your firmware
