Updated Post: Map card not recognised - NOT SOLVED!

Original post:
My TomTom Go 510 has suddenly decided not to recognise the card with map on! I've got two map cards so tried the other and it doesn't like that one either - just a red cross over a box on the screen indicating that I should take the card out - I do and put it back in and the same thing happens. It won't connect to computer either - just sitting here, power on, with the yellow and white screen and outline of the device. Help pleeasee!!

Thought I should mention I have performed a reset MANY times.

Sounds like the card reader in your tt 510 is having a problem. I have had this same problem on several 510 and 710's. If you have dropped your tt the ribbon cable may have become dislodged from it's connector, but I would say this is unlikely. If you have a card reader in your pc or printer insert the card there and see if tt home comes up or it is displayed in my computer.
Hope this helps

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

No maps found!

2 possibilites here.

1. There is no map installed on your tomtom, you'll have to buy one.
2. You have a patched map and updated the units navcore and the unit needs to be re-patched to recognise the map

I updated my tomtom 125 and now it says i have no maps!!

You have loaded a MAP or MAPS that has not been properly 'registred' to your unit - if you just copy a MAP from another Tom Tom device, it will not recognised it unless you register it to your machine ... plenty of info on the internet on this subject ...
Hope it helps!

TomTom Go 720 GPS suddenly won't recognise Australian maps has message "You cannot use this map on this device: Australia Regards, Lorance

These error's occur when units have cracked maps put on them.
When you update your tomtom device it will replace the cracked file with the original tomtom file.

these units on ebay are mainly refurbished units even tho they are in 'sealed' packaging, they opened your box, put cracked maps and sell the device for more then what they have paid for it.

Best to take it back to person you purchased it from.

avoid tomtom products from ebay, most of them have cracked maps.

Thanks,
Pabs

TomTom Home

I had a similar problem when trying to update my dad’s old TomTom Go300. I bought a new map and downloaded TomTom Home 2 (as instructed on the website) but found that the Go300 was recognised by the computer it wasn't recognised by TomTom's own Home 2 software.

To cut a long story short I uninstalled Home 2 and downloaded Home 1 (from http://www.tomtom.com/plus/service.php?ID=17 Home 1 is the one on the right, listed as being the version of Home you use for Navigator 6).

Then when I switched the Go300 on it was recognised by Home1 - although the new map I had bought wasn't listed as being available for download.

However, I updated the Go300 with the available listed free updates, then switched it off.

Downloaded Home 2 again and switched the Go300 on - this time it was recognised by the computer and the new map I had bought was available to download.

So far so good - the only problem was the the postcode search facility was not the same as it had been - I could now only search the first 4 digits of the postcode. There is a fix for this on the tomtom website:

http://www.tomtom.com/support/index.php?Language=1&query=postcode&FID=9852

which I followed and which worked.

Hope this may be of some use to someone! It took me hours to figure it all out. But it's up and running now.

I read and read and re-read the TomTom website looking for any info that would help but came up with nothing. A few hours later and the air thick with torrents of language I didn’t think I was capable of I discovered that I needed to download Home1 first and let the Go300 connect to the computer via Home1 before it would be recognisable by Home2. Okay…
On the website, though, Home1 is listed as being the version you use if you have TomTom Navigator 6. It’s not even called ‘Home 1′. Confusing eh? Anyway, I downloaded that and from there found that I could get my new map onto my Go300. Once the map and other updates were installed and I had switched the thing off I then found that Home2 recognised it at last.
That had to be one of the most ridiculously long-winded things I’ve had to do on a computer, mainly because TomTom’s confusing advice on their website made the whole process so damn difficult. Perhaps they hoped I’d give up and buy a new one? Tsk.

Navman in no longer offering map support for it's iCN 510. This means if there is a new road or community, this unit will not recognize it.
I am really mad about this. I spent $400 2 years ago for something that will not have anymore map updates. Here is there reply when I wrote to them about it. Class action suit anyone?

Dear Henry,

Thank you for contacting Navman Technical Support.

We do apologize for the inconvenience. Navman has decided not to release further map updates for these device due to changes in technology over the last year. We have changed the chipset1.gif and software1.gif platform and are unable to update this device. The Navman 500 series was released with an updated map version last 2005.

If you need further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us, we'll be more than happy to help.
