Question about Panasonic DMC-TZ5 Digital Camera

2 Answers

My panasonic tz5 has started playing up. The lens moves in & out, will not focus & a message 'please turn camera off and on again' appears. This happens each time I want to use it. The battery is charged. Turning the camera on & offf doesn't solve it. Also, on two occasions, I have lost some of my photos due to a 'card read error'.

I had the same problem with the Tz5 barrel extending all the way out and the camera going out of focus. Upgrading to firmware 1.2 and shutting it off and on postponed the inevitable. The problem got worse until finally the display would no longer appear.

Should I send it to Illinois for repairs or throw it away and buy a new one? I haven't decided yet.

I really loved this camera. It takes great pictures and pretty good video athough the audio has a lot of hiss.

Here's another one. But I can attribute it directly to a fll it took and the extended lens took the brunt of the hit. Funny thing is it actually worked for a couple weeks after till just suddenly lapsing into this cycle of not being able to focus then the message to restart.

I'm resigned to repair but have no idea where? Someone above mentioned Illinois? More info please!!!

Same problem. At least for now, I solved problem, or at least camera is working again, by putting mode dial in "normal" (not A1) and holding down menu and down button (macro button) while turning camera on. Hope it works for you and continues to work for me.

Turn the camera on and off in photo mode rapidly until it unsticks.
For fuzzy pictures you may need a firmware upgrade.

Hi there please follow the steps and let me know the result.
1. Ensure batteries are fully charged & clean the battery connector point in side the battery compartment.
2. Look carefully between the lens and the camera body for any sand, dirt or any damaged etc.
3. Try turning the camera with the lens facing down and shake to dislodge anything stuck
4. Try removing batteries and memory card, wait 5 minutes and refit the battery only.

Panasonic DMC-FX35 error message

Sounds as if it has either received a knock, or foreign matter (grit etc) has got into the lens mechanism.

Lens stuck open on Lumix DSC-TZ5

This is a common problem when something goes wrong with the lens system.
This can be as a result of numerous problems.
Try to pull the lens as turning on and also gently twisting it in and out...just may make the lens go back on track.

8 month old tz5 doesn't want to focus any more. Camera says to switch off and then on again, but doesn't help. Anyone help..?

It sounds like the focus is stuck. Could be sand, dirt or something like that. I repaired a TZ5 with this problem a couple of days ago. You should contact your local Panasonic service center or other local camera service center. This is a hardware problem, not software, so I'm afraid changing setting and stuff like that won't help.

I hope this helps!

Panasonic Lumix, lens won't close

The nylon ratching cable that moves the lens on cameras will sometines slip a notch and cause the camera not to be able to focus properly. The camera detects this condition.

In addition, if there is an obstruction internally or externally, not allowing the camera to be able to fully extend the lens, this will cause a camera error.

You could try a little graphite lub on the lens itself while extended, and coax is with slight manual pressure. I would not recommend an oil base lub like WD40. It may work in the short term, but will collect dust and cause more problems in the future. A small plastic puff tube of graphite, dry carbon, is available from any hardware stores and some walmarts. It will lub like crazy, but is a dry powder and dust won't stick to it.

Once your lens is working, wipe off the lens barrel with a dust collecting cloth to remove any excess graphite. It is BLACK and you don't want it near the lens surface. Don't clean lense surface unless it shows it is necessary.

If this doesn't work, sell your camera to a repairman on an ebay auction and buy another used, refurb, or new one on ebay. Good prices, even on the newer TZ5.
