1. plug the power cord into the laptop
2. remove the battery
3. try to power on the laptop

if the laptop led lights up and/or powers up without the battery it can be determined that you need a new battery

if the laptop led doesn't light up and/or power on. then you may have a charging port or power cord problem

Batter wont stay charge

Most laptop batteries have a life expectancy of two years or 400 to 450 charge and discharge cycles. After this time, the battery may lose the ability to charge or to hold a charge for substantial periods of time. When this happens, it's likely the battery needs replacement. However, troubleshooting can narrow the problem and ensure you are not wasting money on a battery replacement.

Check Power Adapter Turn the laptop off. Remove any power cords or power sources. Separate the battery from the bottom of the laptop. Slide or press the locking mechanism to unlock the battery. Slide the battery out of the battery compartment. Plug the power adapter into an electrical outlet. Insert the opposite end of the adapter into the charging outlet on the side of a laptop. Power on the laptop. If the laptop does not turn on, the power adapter is not correctly working. If the power adapter is not working, the battery can not charge. Replace the power adapter. If the laptop powers on, the power adapter is properly working. Clean Battery Contacts Turn the computer off. Remove any power cords or sources. Take the battery out of the battery compartment. Dip a cotton swab in isopropyl alcohol. Rub the dampened swab on the battery compartment and battery contacts. Dust and buildup can prevent battery contacts from properly charging. Slide the battery back into the battery compartment. b> Charge and Test Battery Plug the power adapter into the laptop. Charge the battery for six hours. Remove the power adapter. Turn the laptop on. If the laptop turns on and stays on for at least 30 minutes, the battery is holding a charge. If the laptop doesn't turn on or the battery doesn't power the laptop for at least 30 minutes, the battery should be replaced.

Bring the power cord/charger to a pc shop and have them test it. It might need to be replaced. Otherwise you need to replace the battery.

My laptop will not charge it will stay running while plugged in. It says plugged in not charging

Ifthe laptop battery is more than 3 - 4 years old then the battery could be wornout. Rechargeable batteries have a finite number of charge and discharge cyclesand will lose their charge capacity over time, i.e. won't charge to 100% andgradually the charge reduces until the battery won't charge up atall. ORThe battery shows a 100% charge but when the adapter is disconnected thebattery drops off to zero capacity in a very short time. Ifthe battery drops to an unacceptable charge level then the battery needs to bereplaced.

My iBook G4 has got a power problem.

You probably need a new battery but that machine should only get about 3-4hours with a great battery.

Turn off actomatically, cannot turn on so far.

Your battery may be too low to allow charging it and "starting" your computer at rhe same time.

Remove the battery and clean the contacts on the battery and the laptop.
1. Plug in the laptop power adapter with no battery in the laptop.
2. Turn ON computer. It should stay turned on.
3. After Windows settles, insert battery.
4. The computer will stay powered on.
5. Allow to charge.

Battery does not charge

Will the old battery (that you are replacing) charge up at all? If the old battery charges but the new battery will not, then it's likely a bad replacement battery.

To rule out the possibility of a corrupted battery meter inside of windows, you may wish to leave the laptop on battery power only, until it dies. A 5% charge will usually only grant you about 20 minutes of laptop life maximum. Since you left it charging all night, you should get a few hours of life before it dies. If you get a few hours of life, the battery meter software is corrupted.

Most likely though, the replacement battery is bad.

Want stay charged

Sounds like a bad battery cause its not keeping a charge. Try a new or known good battery and see if it will charge and then unplug the ac adaptor to see if the laptop stays on.

If the laptop stays on with a different battery charged then your old battery is bad. If your laptop doesn't stay on with a known good or new charged battery without the ac adaptor hooked up then its a bad motherboard.
