Question about Office Equipment & Supplies

2 Answers

When I turn the copier on and it warms up and I put something to be copied in the the top or on the glass I don't get a copy light and I can't enter the number of copies or anything. the light of what tray the item is in will light up sensing it there. I am getting no error or any error lights. If I put the machine in simulation 7 I can run copies perfect and the counter works. when I take it out simulation theres nothing. I have zero all the counters.

Ok, right off the bat, I think that when you believe you are taking it OUT of simulation, you are actually, (by means of an internal error) putting it INTO simulation and vice versa, so try using the machine in what appears to be simulation.

So, it's not ACTUALLY operating properly when in Simulation mode and not at all while not in that mode, which based on your new information, we will regard as actually a simulation mode.

Everything we do here is all about the transmission of information, whether it seems to be important or not, any information might prove to be the key that solves your problem.

When any instrument is given a demo or simulation routine, the limited nature of the functions performed is isolated to a single chip, which operates independently of the normal operating functions
of the instrument and as a demonstration that the mechanical functions can be performed normally.

Apparently the mechanical functions of your copier are intact and operational, but the I/O which allows your control of these functions is inoperative, as you have stated that you can neither specify functions nor control them.

Your system therefore needs service as to determining whether the I/O logic board is in need of replacement.

Bench time is recommended. Your copier is mechanically operational, but the control board is not.

Will need the make and model number for in depth diagnosis, but based on the symptoms your copier will need to be replaced/repaired. Try one thing before writing it off try disconnecting the power to the copier for 5 minutes to let the programs reset.

Why do I get a thick black line down side of page when copying, but not when I print

Not sure, but one possibility is that your paper you are copying is not all the way to the edge of the copier. If there is a crack along the edge where light from the room can get in it will show up black in those areas. You will see the same effect if you leave the top of the copier off and try to copy something. There could also be something wrong with the scanner arm preventing it from moving all the way to the edge of the window.

When making a copy on our Canon copier (super G3; image class MF4150) we are getting a vertical black line down the entire length of the paper. Is there something we can do to fix it? SG

You can fix this yourself by cleaning the scanner glass. When you insert a document to make a copy it is pulled in and travels over a thin strip of glass. When something gets stuck on this glass it is read or scanned as a solid line. What you need to do is make a copy. Then put that copy in the feeder the same way you put the original document in. Now the line on the copy will "line up" with the area of the glass that has something stuck to it. Use this as a guide to pop open the feeder cover, locate the glass and clean it with a cloth dampened with a bit of glass cleaner. Once you have it cleaned just run a copy again and the line should be gone. Sometimes a small flashlight helps to locate the glass.
Good Luck and Thank You for using Fixya.

Canon mf 6540 copies come out uneven

Did you clean beneath copy glass ( adf copy glass and platen )?Did you clean scaner also?
Clean the laser unit.
Not genuine toner isnt best solution.

Try to print something. If the print is OK, then the problem is in copy glass and scaner.

The screen says the Paten glass needs to be cleaned. What is the paten glass? Also when copies are made a black line is showing up on the edge of the copy.

platen glass means that you need to clean the copy glass - glass where you put the originals for copying.
If you have an auto document cleaner there is also small glass on left side of "platen glass" wich is seen when you open the copy machine cover or dadf.

The black line is probably from dirt on copy glass, I pressume because courectour liquid ( most common ). use some stronger detergent or wd-40 to disolve the dirt and clean with glass detergent and dry it.

If you still have the black line try to print something from machine. If you do not have it on print its the copy glass problem - clean it - again.

Horizontal streak

Clean the scanner strip glass. This is the small strip of glass that is just to the left of the large main glass. This is the only cause for black line (s) when copying using the ADF(top feed). If prints or copies fine from the glass then it is this strip glass needing to be cleaned.

Won't copy. get

The "warming up" error is caused by a dirty scanner mirror or scanner glass. To fix the issue you will have to remove the top of the unit. You will need to clean both sides of the glass where you put the paper to scan. After this clean the mirrors that are under the top cover. Be sure to not break any of the cables. You can use paper towels and q-tips dampened with Windex to clean all of the glass and mirror surfaces. Reassemble the unit and you should be error free again.

I hope this helps, if so please rate our solution

Customers get my faxes with a line and when I print a copy, I as well get a thick line and 2 thin lines on my copies. I have an HP officejet 6210 All in one. R0037 Service ID # 17039 Serial #...

try and put a clean sheet of paper on the scanner glass and make a copy of it.

if the copy has lines on it and the copy glass is perfectly clean, no streaks or scratches on the glass where the lines appear on the copy.

check on the internal optics and sensor for something on them. if they are perfectly clean then the sensor or the internal logics have a failure and need replacement or repair.

i truely hope there is a piece of lint or paper or something somewhere in the light path so all you have to do is clean it up.

Light copies

The optics need to be cleaned also. If you are tech savvy, then there are two screws that hold down the glass on the right side of the top of the copier. lift up the glass, power must be off. then with a soft cloth, wip the mirrors that you can see. Other wise the corona wires will need to be cleaned in side the copier.
