There is a great manual here:
http://www.sony.co.uk/support/ShowExternalPage.action?product=DCR-HC14E&supportProductModelName=DCR-HC14E&linkType=manual&isRegistered=false&site=odw_en_GB&pageType=manualPopup§iontype=Support&externalUrl=http%3A%2F%2Fpdf.crse.com%2Fmanuals%2F3089850112.pdf&externalLinkType=manual
And in short the I.link is a 1394 port or firewire port
You should be good to go

Hello
I found a solution installing the generic Sony USB driver in Vista Ultimate using compatibility mode (Windows XP SP2).

I solved the problem by searching the internet until I found the programme that fixed my problem.

make sure that you are using the correct firewire plugs (4 pin on the camera and 4 or 6 pin on the computer depending on the computer). If you are sure you have all this correct, check your BIOS settings for a disabled media card or 1394 controller.
