Question about Parks Optical 13.5hp Briggs And Stratton Intek Lawn Mower Engine

Open Question

Briggs & Stratton Starter

My husband replaced the starter last week it has worked a few times just fine. This morning I went to start it and it won't start. It keeps doing the same thing that burnt up the starter last time. It won't turn over. When we replaced the starter we even bought a new battery for added assurance. What can be causing this problem?

I recommend  Jack's Small Engine Repair; they have always had the detail part I needed and their prices are among the lowest.
They will probably have an illustrated parts page for your model.

The next thing you need to do is to check the coil. It may need a new one. Be sure to disconnect the ground wire from the coil to isolate it first. I'll link you to a video which shows you how this is done:

I hope this helps. Best of luck to you.

Yes it very well could be the starter solenoid, with a digital volt/ ohm meter and the battery disconnected place the positive lead on the positive test lead . With the meter on ohms take the negative lead and touch the frame or engine . This will confirm weather or not you have a short to frame. If the meter reads 0.00 disconnect the starter from the system by removing the positive and ignition wires from th starter . Now individualy test each wire removed from the starter in the same process as above if ohm meter read ol ( over limit) the starter would be the best place to start. If the meter reads 0.00 would suggest there are other issues in the circuit and the starter may not be at fault.

2006 Kia Rio will not turn over

the timing belt will not have anything to do with the motor turning over trying to start. First make sure u do have a very strong battery. Could be a bad connection or a broken wire to starter also.

Starter turns engine too slowly

If the engine has not been taken apart, then the problem should be either too much oil or a weak battery, and lastly a weak starter. If the engine was "rebuilt" then the timing may be off.

the remote starter is not going to damage the starter, but if wired wrong it could damage the wiring or fuses, or run the battery down from a short.

From your description it seems that the starter is not engaging to turn over the engine. First ensure all the connections of the thicker cables to the battery, starter and tractor frame are clean and tight. If starter motor is turning but still not engaging it will mean that the pinion on the starter motor is binding on the shaft. You can buy a new starter pinion gear from your local B & S agent.
To replace pinion, remove starter motor from engine, remove old pinion and put on new one and reattach starter to engine. If fuel & spark are right you should be up amd running.

Check the flywheel for areas of damaged teeth also. Broken teeth on the starter drive gear may inticate damage to flywheel also.

PLEASE HELP! My husband is driving me crazy about Riding Mower

Sounds like the gear on top of the starter is stuck or broken. Inspect starter. If it's broken, the starter must be removed to replace the starter drive. You may need to buy a Starter Drive Kit. If you starter has a flat piece on top held on by a retaining ring, it's part # 696541. If you have the older type starter with roll pin holding the drive on, you need part # 696540. You probably have the first one. To install the retaining ring, use a 3/8 socket to tap it into the groove. Dwain
