Every unit is different. Some units you have to remove the electronics and the top of the unit first before removing the back panel. Try laying the unit on it's back and see if you can access the unit from the bottom.

Dryer about 5-6 years old and does about 5-6 loads per week. last 2 months, with medium to heavy loads, has developed a loud squeak that coincides with drum rotation. light loads cause a lesser squeak, and...

drum rollers/glides, may be that the motor needs to be oiled, in which case you will need to unplug dryer and drill a hole in the casing not to deep just to where it goes through the casing, then moisten the cotton fabric. Hope this helps Tim:

I have a ALE 866 dryer and everytime we run it, it is making a loud squeeking sound

Hello- The squeak is most likely coming from the drum rollers which are located under the drum in the rear; these often become sticky due to the heat and dust inside the dryer. It is usually best to replace them once the machine is opened up though sometimes the bearings are ok and one can just remove the wheels and clean the roller shaft with a green kitchen scrubber. The best lube to use is graphite because it does not break-down and get gummy with the heat generated by the dryer. The drum has to be removed in order to perform the service and Maytag (AMANA) belts are very tricky to put back on so I would suggest having a Tech out to accomplish this. They could also clean the inside of the dryer cabinet of lint and check the belt and other components for wear at the same time. Best regards.

I have an old GE dryer model DDG5380valwh. When try to start it it just hums. What should I do?

** ALLWAYS unplug a dryer before working on it.
Humming means the motor may not be turning.
The motor could be 'capacitor start'. Replace the capacitor.
The motor could be centrifugal start. Remove the belt. Still won't start? Replace the motor.
The motor bearings could be seized. Rebuild the motor or replace it.
The belt may be broken if the humming is a higher pitch. Replace the belt.
The drum may be jammed. Clean and lube the main bearing (Use Maytag Turbine oil or the recommended lube), the support wheels or the guides. Replace felt seals at the same time for best results.

My GE Profile Dryer is still operating but produces loud intermitent noise as the drum rotates. What can I do to eliminate the noise?

It sounds like you may have a bad bearing in the back of the drum. That model rotates on a sort of ball and socket type mechanism. You may be able to lubricate it if the noise is just squealing/squeaking. If it is more than that, you'll probably need to replace the bearing mechanism. If you lube it, use a heavy weight lube that is rated for high heat (I've used brake caliper grease.)

GE electric dryer is squeaking. It seems like it sqeaks loudest when the clothes are wet.

It sounds as though the bearings are going bad. You will need to check if they can be lubed. Most bearings in this type of environment (lint, dirt) are sealed. The reason why it's louder while the clothes are wet is because they are heavier.
