Seagate 500GB FREEAGENT DESKTOP 7200RPM EXTERNAL USB 20 HARD DRIVE 16MB it just stoped working in the middle of the movie, complete blackout, tryed conect to another PC nothing came up, what it could be...

Try this:

1. Turn off the power supply to the hard drive.
2. Turn off your PC/laptop.
3. Connect the hard drive to the PC/laptop.
4. Turn on both devices.

It worked with mine.

You could also try installing Seagate Manager which can check for errors on the drive.

I am looking for a manual for FreeAgent GoFlex Desk USB 3.0. I have no idea how it works. It doesn't need fixing, I need to know how to do various tasks.

Here's a link for all the Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex external hard drives support page:

I would suggest finding the quick start guide for your external hard drive and reading that first.

Thanks for using FixYa; please post back if you have any problems and I will help you further.

How do i fix an external hard drive (seagate freeagent) that makes a beeping sound and is not recognized by my system ?

Look inside your P.C. 1st to check SATA data connection type.
eSATA is a different connection from SATA so you might need an eSATA data lead if you follow the guide in the link, not sure if it just external connections only and plain SATA connection inside.
Google image 'eSATA' data lead/cable and you will see the difference between the eSATA and SATA connection if you don't already know.
My neighbour has the Seagate FreeAgent Desk 500GB (Externel HardDrive), and in under 2 weeks it started to beep and was not reconized by any Laptop or P.C. if this is the same for you with any FreeAgent Desk series ( not GO series, different procedure for GO products). You maybe in luck click this link, you may have to register in the forums to view thread....=84 Thread can be found in 'Technical' under 'General Technical Issues' Dont worry if your a novice like me with computers, the guide is quite easy to follow...

I have just purchased a Seagate 500GB Desktop hard drive

There is software preloaded on the disk. If you have AutoPlay turned off in your system, it won't start automatically when you connect the drive. Just go to MyComputer and open the drive and you will find a setup file there to install the backup software (I think it's called Launch.exe).

Seagate Freeagent Dropped

Unfortunately what you are describing is a damaged platter inside the hard drive. You may be able to get a technician to recover some data but generally this means the drive is gone forever.

Seagate FreeAgent external hard drive 500GB not recognising directory tree

Its the rubbish software that Seagate have bundled with their drive which will not allow you to backup the system folders. Solution is to use another backup utility, a google search will quickly locate numerous FREE software products which will alow you to copy anything. Unfortunately when you start googling about this drive you may be quite distressed about your purchase, as i have been :( Problems lay ahead with this drive due to inadequate cooling.....
