Question about GE Profile Spectra JGBP90 Gas Kitchen Range

Oven does not maintain temperature. Part 2

I have used this site to help me find the problem to my 5 year old GE Spectra XL44 oven (Model JGBP30CEA3CC). This model oven does not show the temperature as it changes. I purchased an external Thermometer (OT-03 Baker's Oven Remote Thermometer) that samples temperature every 10 seconds. 1. I measured the sensor resistance. At room temp, the resistance was 1058 ohms. With the sensor removed, I carefully heated up the sensor. The resistance gradually increased. I quit heating the sensor when resistance reached 2K ohms. The resistance gradually decreased. Conclusion: Sensor okay. 2. Installed the external sensor close to the sensor in the oven. The following occurred when turning on oven and setting at 350 degrees F. The igniter came on and gas (i.e. flame) came on about 30 seconds later. When the temperature reached 358 degrees (external thermometer), the igniter and gas shut off. I can hear the igniter relay click during the on/off cycle. Temperature started dropping, at 336 degrees, the igniter came on, 30 seconds later, the gas (i.e. flame) came on. 5 seconds later, the gas shuts off. About 30 second later, the above process kept repeating. Conclusion: Igniter is okay. 3. If I turn the oven off and then turn it back on and set to 350 degrees again, the above process (step 2 above) repeats once the temperature reaches the set 350 degrees. 4. If instead of resetting (turning oven off, then back on), I just increase the setting to 425 degrees, the oven will heat up to 425 degrees and then start repeating on/off cycle as mention in step 2. This seems to indicate the control unit as the problem? Unfortunately, GE wants $250 for the unit. But this is still cheaper than a new stove. What is your opinion on what I should replace?

Fixed. Why, I do not know.
I swapped the igniters between the broiler and the bake unit. When I did this the oven started working. It has been about 2 weeks and it is still working. To be on the safe side, I purchases a new igniter to keep in case the oven fails again. I measures the resistance of the igniters (room temp), the one used for baking (the failed one ?) measured at around 150 ohm. The one from the broiler measured at around 190 ohms. The new one measures at 185 ohm. I do not think the difference in resistance should cause a problem unless the change in resistance due to heating was the cause.

GE Xl44 does not reach or maintain setpoint . Display indicates increases of 5 degrees/second, but temp is not reached or maintained.

Have your oven ignitor checked. If they do not get hot enough quick enough the oven will light intermit. Usually when it does light you will often get a scent of gas or a poof. If that's the case, change the ignitor
