SOURCE: need to add freon

  • if you are tapping into a sealed system, then you use the larger of the two copper lines coming out of the side of the compressor (this is the low pressure line, the compressor pulls from this side).
  • clean off the copper tubing with some fine sandpaper before installing your tap.
  • it is very easy to over fill a system with freon, so i would recommend pulling down the system to -30 psi and holding for at least 20 minutes. then add a known amount of freon to the system.
  • let it run for a while, it will take a little time to get the temperatures down.

Whirlpool freezer cool air but not freezing?

Check the seal first. Then check the freon. If it's R-12, you can go to the auto parts house. They have a bottle with a hose to add freon. You put it in on the "suction" low side with the unit running. you can tell when it has enough by feeling the low line be cold and teh high pressure line is warm to hot

I have a Magic chef upright freezer i can hear the compresser running but it will not freeze meat

Has this happened suddenly? Look at the shelves to see if there is a frost line. If the shelves that also carry the Freon appear to have a frost line your freezer may have a Freon leak. If there is a Freon leak it will be better to begin looking for a replacement freezer. Let me know what you see, Thanks Sea Breeze

Where do you get tap to add freon

I always get my tap valves at www.apdepot.com. The best ones to use are bpv-31 bullet piercing valves, because they are capable of piercing a variety of line sizes, so your not limited to your tap location and find the most accessable spot.

I cannot find the location to add freon to my frigidare uprifgt freezer model number-ffu16f9cw1

Hi,
Most freezers do not have a tap from the factory to add aditional freon...you will need specialized equipment to be able to do that...

As the weather is getting warmer for many people their freezer2_bing.gif and/or refrigerator do not work right because of a dirty condenser coil...

Check out this tip that I wrote about that... it is a great place to start trouble shooting your unit...and something that you can do rather then calling a repair person to do a simple thing for you...

Frigidaire stand up frost proof w/ temp alarm / 98' model. Compressor running, no power problem. Removed interior panel and found that evaporator coils not getting cool. When switch for alarm is pushed on...

If your compressor is running with no freon, It should be very hot. Check if it is. And if it is and the freon has leaked out. Then you must find the leak in the system before you add more freon. If you dont this will be an ongoing problem. The freon will leak out after any length of time. This is a very hard task to find the leak, and you will be money ahead to buy another if you dont find the leak than to re charge every year or so.

Ice forms on copper pipe under freezer off compressor

it sound like your unit has a bad sensor on it or a leak. you should never have to add refrigerant to a unit unless theres a leak then it has to be repaired firdt the recharged.
