Question about Panasonic Palmcorder PV-DV53 Mini DV Digital Camcorder

1 Answer

Audio jumpy on playback

Hello, I have a Panasonic DV Palmcorder that I've had for a few years. Today I tried to transfer some tapes over to my computer and noticed that the sound was cutting in and out rapidly on one of the tapes. I put in another tape that played perfectly earlier and the sound is also now cutting in and out on that tape, so I know it is not the original tape. I've tried cleaning the unit with a head cleaner, what else would you suggest? Any advice is much appreciated.

Re: audio jumpy on playback

These heads should be cleaned by hand, use denatured alcohol on tape cleaning sticks . never rub up and down on the video heads only sideways, be very carefull. after wardware blow the heads dry with commpressed air or wait a few hours before you stick a tape in or your tapes film will stick to the drum cylinder. if this does not work you can sometimes adjust the tape guides just little to get the audio track back on track. It should be taken to an authorized repair centre for a repair estimate. Very few digital cameras have any user-serviceable parts.

Your tape has a small latch on it that closes to protect from recording or eraser and opens to allow for playing or dubbing. Slide it open and see what happens.

Panasonic Mini Dv 203D - vcr playback in striped screen

I have had this problem. Dont despair! It s a cleaning issue or possibly slight moisture issue. They want you to clean the tape heads. Stick a cotton cue tip in there; i didnt use any denatured alcohol or anything... like we used to do with audio cassette tapes. And/or With a little bit of warm dry air (sitting in the sunshine perhaps) it should correct itself in a day or so. Happened to me (at wrong times of course) maybe three times or so. But never even ruined any tapes that I am aware of. Take heart, its a great little machine when cared for. Except I actually, alas! finally droped mine and now cant get the door open! . . . I was using the PV GS150 primarily by that time, but am still hoping to get the DV203 running again, still pics were really no good on it, but everything else was. All these years worked like a charm, except the few times it zebraed out on me briefly.

Video playback

The video heads need cleaning. You can gently clean with soft white cloth and alcohol and let dry.

Chewing up mini-dv tapes

These type of problems usually result from damage to the tape transport mechanism, Unfortunately they are impossible to fully diagnose without a physical examination of the mechanism.
There is not a magic tweak for this i'm afraid.
Wish i could be more help
