Recently bought this hdtv and have been having trouble with the picture. within minutes of turning the tv on the picture turns upside down. nothing you do gets it to do right. you'd have to stand on you head to be able to watch. does anyone know what the prob is? the book that came with it gives no help with this...

Re: upside down picture
OK this would denote that somehow your deflection (verticle) has been switched. I would have to see what the service documentation has to say about this, if you can contact the manufacture and get the service documents I or someone else can actually help with this problem. It is actually a simple problem but the service documentation will show how to correct it properly.

I am having the exact same issue. It started happening within the first few hours of turning on the XBR9 for the first time. I also have a Motorola box from Comcast. This did not happen with the HD TV that was hooked up previously. Did you return the TV?

If there is a volume control on the remote that came with the converter box, use it to make sure the box volume is set to its maximum. Many models allow you to control the volume out from the box to the TV, and the levels are set about halfway. When you turn up the volume on the TV cause it's too low, you can get the kind of audio problem you describe. Make sure you turn the volume down on the TV first before starting with the box.
Sure you can, if you have Dish Network go to the receiver and turn the TV and receiver on. Then press menu-6-1-1. This takes you to the point dish screen. You will come out with better results using a compass to find the azimuth the dish should be pointed toward and bore sighting the dish by pointing it in that direction. You then will need to move the dish in very minute increments pausing for 15 to 20 seconds after each move to ensure the satellite signal can be found. If you have ran a check switch prior to this and have lost all satellites you more than likely will not receive a signal until you run another check switch and have found the signal of at least one of the orbitals. If this proves to be to tedious and many times it will you can usually find an inexpensive signal pointing device at a store like Radio Shack. Hope this is some assistance to you. cap-grant, my friend has the same problem with set top box. When I phone maker I was told it is due to poor and weak signal. You must have 80% signal strength to maintain good picture. When signal strength dropped picture would freeze and had to be turned off at the power point to restart as nothing would work. So I guess what my experience says is you may need better aerial to boost signal and prevent dropout Leonard210
