Pull the cover off to the fan and compressor housing and clean it. Clean coiling as well. Most coils are located under the unit. They make an appliance brush to reach between the coils that can be purchased at an appliance store.

Brand new Kenmore mini fridge is making an annoying whistling noise

If Sears did suggest a solution for the symptom you describe it would probably be to replace the fan.

Whistling sound from inside freezer compartment

is this a loud whistling, like a dying bird stuck in your freezer, or is this a lower pitched, sort of gentle whistling sound. If its the former, you likely have a faulty freezer fan motor. replace
if its the latter, sounds like you may have a issue with the door damper, which allows the air flow from the freezer into the refrigerator. However, assuming you dont have any cooling problems, you didnt mention if you do, it may simply be a normal occurance, as some makes and models open and close this damper door automatically, and when it is closed, can sometimes cause a low whistling noise

Top compressor area is making a 'sing song' whistle noise, which appears to happen when it is not running. This is a 1990 model KSSS48DW BDWW00, KITCHEN AID SIDE BY SIDE. We got it used. We had a service...

If it's a whistle, or chirp like sound, then find what is rubbing together to cause the noise. If it is a low pumping sound that seems to be coming from internal to the compressor, then that is the way they sound.

I might caution you, if the tech's that are putting R-12 in the system are doing so through clamp on type service ports, they are violating the EPA mandate for the type of equipment used to service A/C and refrigeration equipment. Besides the fact that it will continue to leak because the type of fittings used will not hold R-12.

Whisling noise coming out of inside the refrigerator. Louder when freezer door is open. maybe ice maker area?

The whistling is caused by the air circulating fan located just behind the light. It is easily accessed by removing the light cover and the two small hex screws above the light. To stop the whistling I simply turned the freezer off and pulled the fan cover out slightly to reveal the fan blades. I then pushed the blades down, toward the bottom of the until the blades stopped and i could feel the shaft slightly protruding from the top of the blades. Repositioning the blade has stopped the incessant whistling. Hope this helps!

Electrical noise

If the noise from the compressor sounds like a humming followed by a click, the compressor is "short cycling". Could be either the compressor relay or the compressor itself is bad. Not sure on the hissing noise. Could be just a loose panel that needs to be tightened or adjusted.
