Ok, so I have been trying out my laptop for burning dvds but i am still a lil lost. I started out using the pre-installed program "windows dvd maker" and another one "windows movie maker" and when I would try to bring and burn files to it, it would only allow still pictures and not any of my lil video clips that I have saved in "my pictures". I am still xo confused and would really love some help and guidance on how to do this. thank you

Hi Richard, yes you can burn DVDs with your laptop. Check the CD/DVD disc that came with your computer. However, I understand its pre-installed either with Roxio or Sonic utilities. On the other hand, if you have Vista and Windows 7 it will do as well.
Please comment if the information provided has been helpful for the improvement of my support assistance. Thank you and regards.
if your DVD Drive ( ROM ) read-Only-Memory. then it will only read DVDs And Not Write Them. You need a DVD RW Drive, to be able to write. If Your CD Drive Is A CD/RW That means its a CD Re-writable drive. try a Burn To CD.
Try using a programme called dvd flick http://www.dvdflick.net/ to author your dvds and use imgburn http://www.imgburn.com/ to burn them. I had similar kind of problem with dvds burned with nero and now use dvd flick and imgburn all the time and have had no problems. They are both free programmes so hopefully they will sort the problem out for you :)
You need to check that with blank DVD's you are using compatible with your drive.Because the DVD's may work with your extranal drive but not with your builting drive. If this doen't slove the problem I would recommend using a different burning software other than "sonic record now" and "vista o/s Built-in dvd burner".
Either the drive is bad or your using the wrong type of blank dvds.Try using DVD-R or DVD-RW for betters chances of success.Sometimes some of the new DVDs are bad.Make sure you try a couple different ones even from a new pack of DVDs.
Well I am not surprised ya can't get it to work.. It can all be quite confusing....
I suggest that you try some "Other" burning software. I recommend CopytoDVD...AnyDVD ... convertXtoDVD....
See one has to have a program that will "Burn" in a Format suitable for ALL players PC & stand alone DVD's the ones I have listed Just work... ensure you read the "Help" files and B4 long ya will be watching DVD's.
If you use the Nero Smart start, you should see an icon to switch from burning CDs to burning DVDs. Once you click this icon, you should be able to burn to DVDs.
