Question about GE 25GT270 TV

1 Answer

Ticking sound Tv blew fuse, I replaced fuse and it blew again. I determined that the Hor.Output transistor was bad, replaced it and now it tries to turn on, high voltage crackles some if I put my hand on the front of screen but it will not light up. I Hear a ticking sound (like a Watch) coming from around the Flyback Transformer but I don't see a spark.

Re: ticking sound

Ticking sound (like a Watch) coming from around the Flyback Transformer but I don't see a spark is called EHT voltage . if eht voltage is ok 1 check filament is glowing or not if it is ok check voltages on crt. 2 if it is ok check luminance section in chroma section. if filament is not glowing check for low eht due to hor section check power supply output also. good luck

You can try and replace the hor.out but before trying it again check for bad solder joint in the hor. deflection circuit . If the hor. out goes again then you have a good chance that the h.v transfo (flyback) is gone as well. Check for overheating of the hor. output once its working again,it could be sign of a faulty hor. drive or pincushion circuit.
Hope this will help. Good luck

the old ticking sound... yes.. it means your power supply shut down and continously trys to reboot ... hense the tick sound as the voltage rises and fails.

Means you got a short somewhere. Most likely the obvious high power consuming High Voltage Suppy... and as I found in 99.9 percent the Horizontal power Transistor shorted... 80 percent Flyback, 10 percent audio... 10 percent some odd circuits like vertical or yoke as shorted.

you have a short.

JVCAV-N2043TV,Horiontal Output Transistor burns out everytime if fix a new one

Hi There,

The Hor Output transistor is connected to the Line Output Transformer. This transfromer provides a lot of voltages around your TV set but includes the very high voltage to the Picture tube...

These transformers are specially tuned to resonate at a certain frequency,
The Hor output transistor needs to match this if the wiring inside the transformer is shorted by "just a bit" the picture will be visible but the transistor is struggling to match the transformer impedance, from the mismatched the transistor draws more current from the power supply.. runs hot then burns out...

Usually manufacturers provide a Trip circuit that detects that an overload on the power supply is occuring and cuts the power to the Line output stage ...this is usually detected by a clicking sound within the power supply its called hiccuping.

If some one has altered the correct setting on the power trip circuit then the next thing that happens is the Transistor goes Blooooey like in your case.....

So to save you a lot of money replacing the output transistor
please replace the output transfromer as well next time...

But please... please... re-check the power supply trip circuit to save you a lot more expense in the future....

Best Regards From YUBEUT

Tv trouble shooting

whenever any fusible resistance fails means there is a short ckt in tv. failure is mainly due to main filter cap or rectifire diode os switching ckt failure(here as you cleared str.) remember while servicing power supply isolate hor. section for safety purpose.& connect it only after power supply output is ok &after checking parts in hor. ouyput section. if this seems to be ok then go for hor.output ckt failure like hor output, flyback transformer & cap& diodes connected with it.

Loud pop and picture is no longer available.....

blown resistor (42ohm) replaced this and it imediately blew it clearly shows that there is a short circuit in your tv. if you are a tech person please proceed as follows. 1 isolate power supply from hor.output section. 2 now check power supply section.i.e. switching tran., cap..diode etc. 3 if it becomes ok check power supply output. 4 if output is ok then check hor. output section.i.e. h.out tr.,cap& diode in eht winding. 5 check print near eht. 6 at finally eht. 7 see every thing is normal now. now reconnect power to hor.section. put on tv. good luck.

Won't Power On

as you have seen inside that no power & no light. problem seems to be in power supply. 1 check fuse. 2 check switching ckt. 3 check for loose contact or print break. 4 now if you get power on & still tv is not ok then check for hor. output transistor in hor. output stage. if you are not tech person please do not try to fix it as high voltage is there inside.

My LG tv has suddenly got a problem with the picture. Whilst watching the tv with no problems at all, the picture was suddenly reduced to a thin vertical line down the centre of the screen and an awful smell seemed to come from the tv There is a short ckt in your tv in horl. section. 1 isolate power from horizontal section. 2 check for normal output from power supply. 3 check parts in horl output section a hor.output transistor b diode & cap in h/output trnsformerckt. c check for print. d if all are ok check for eht transformer. e if every thing becomes then reconnect hor output section supply. f put on the set.

No raster no audio,Zenith SJ 2065S5

as horizontal transistor gets very hot so no eht so no raster &no sound due to nosupply to vif & tuner. as hor output is getting hot please isolate supply to hor. section & check power supply output is ok as due to high voltage h/outout may get hot & demaged. if supply is ok check for leaky or short parts in hor output. 1 hor. output transistor itself if it is replaced that may not be of proper matching. 2 diode& eht section. 3 clean print near eht. 4 moisture near yoke due to rain in rainy season only. so keep it hot for few hours. 5 at last if all are ok eht or fly back transformer. re connect power to hor output after rectification
