Question about Maytag MMV5165 Stainless Steel 1000 Watts Microwave Oven

2 Answers

All of a sudden, my 6 year old MVP V is not working. I push Cook Time and I'm not able to enter numbers for cook time duration or Start. When I hit Warm, it locks there and won't allow me to switch back to Cook Time. I tried resetting the Microwave by tripping the power switch but to no avail. Ted N

How do I easily get the panel off? I've been trying to loosen the edges with a screwdriver. Does it just pop off?

  • nicholste Apr 18, 2009

Again, the ribbon connector seems clean; we took an eraser to it anyway but no change in function of the microwave. Anything else you would suggest?

  • nicholste Apr 19, 2009

This is a Maytag microwave - I wouldn't go thru Sears, would I? And where exactly is the part #? Is it the FCC ID or Serial # or the # on the wiring diagram?

  • nicholste Apr 21, 2009

OK; my serial # was CMV1000ADW. I ordered a control trim and switch assy for $68.39. It appeared to be the right part. This should do the trick if the controller board is the issue, right?

    Thanks for your help.

Your controller board has failed.
Either a loose solder joint, or failed component on the circuit board.

GO HERE and enter the FULL part number of your microwave, and your controller can be found in the diagrams.

They are normally under $50 and something you can change on your own without disassembling the microwave too much... anything further, and I would recommend professional repair. There are potentially lethal voltages inside a microwave that must be safely discharged before repairs are attempted !!

yes, sears sells maytag... and when I entered the mmv5165 in the parts search - it came up with about 10 different models.

I have to assume the last letters have to do with color or some additional features.

    SEE HERE

Your manual or wiring schematic should say the full model# SEE HERE for help locating the number as well.

Let me know if you have trouble finding your particular unit.

Reply with the full model #

    dear,

Open the mic and take off the hole pannel, you will see plastic like clips that u have to press out. not to do alot..Be cearfull not to bend it as it is sensitive and can break if bended....

check its ribbon connector side strip edge..if seems blackish or dirty use an eraser to clean it and the try again...if problem persists then u have to change it with new one and take care while pressing the button no need to press them hardly...

    regards,

How do I change temp and time while food is cooking?

all is explained in the user manual
if you have just put food in the even and pressed the start several times to get a number of minutes to cook but want to increase that time just press start again the number of times that you want the cook time to increase
for example :-
you put a frozen pie in the oven and your start operates in 30 second increments and you have pushed it 3 times and it starts cooking-BUT - you read the cooking instructions and it says cook for 4 minutes, just press the start another 3 times while it is cooking
the new cook time will show on the display

How do you change the power level?

On most brands, you enter the cook time, then press the "Power Level" key, followed by the using a single digit key for the desired power percentage, then hitting "Start".
EXAMPLE: Too cook for one minute at 30% power:
Time Cook > 1 > 0 > 0 > Power Level > 3 > Start
A possible alternative key combination may be:
Time Cook > 1 > 0 > 0 > Power Level > Power Level >Power Level > Start

I have Emerson Microwave #mw8999sv which has the Express Cook option- cooking 1 - 6 minutes. How do I cook for 1 minute 30 seconds, etc.? Thank you.

The owner's manual is here. On page 10 we find:

COOKING IN ONE STAGE
1. Press the POWER button; the Microwave and High
Cook indicators will light and “PL 10” will light in the
display.
2. Press the POWER button different times to set the
desired power; the display will show the percentage
you chose. If selecting power level 70%-10%, the
Low Cook indicator will light instead of the High
Cook indicator.
3. Press number keys to set the desired cooking time.
OPERATION(CONTINUED)
4. Press the START/+30SEC. button to start cooking;
the Microwave and one of the Cook indicators will
blink and the display will countdown the remaining
cooking time in minutes and seconds. It will beep
five times when cooking is completed.

My mother just bought an Emerson MW8119 Microwave and can't figure out how to only set say 15 seconds cook time. Is it possible?

Hi! I just purchased the same microwave, and came online to find the solution. I was then able to find the correct answer to this problem. On this model, Emerson does not put a "time cook" button for odd cook times such as 15 seconds. Instead, they have you push the "Power Button" prior to setting the cook time.

If you want to cook on full power, press the power button once, and then enter your cooking time and press start. If you want to cook on 50% power or 30% power or something like that, push the "Power Button" several times until the appropriate power level is displayed, then enter the cook time and press start.

The reason that it starts up right away when *********** pushes the 1 button is because Emerson has the quick cooking feature for 1 minute through 6 minutes. You only have to push the number once to get the 1 minute cook time or anywhere through 6 minutes respectively.

Hope this helps!

Emerson microwave, #MW8119SB, push start button to start cooking

Replace the fuse with a ceramic fuse from Home depot! costs less than $3 and it will fix the problem. I had all the same problems as everyone else, you name it my microwave had it! you must remember replace it with a ceramic fuse! not a glass one. I know people say its the switchboard and all that nonsence but I promise you, the fuse plays a majoe roll in the microwave not working properly. Even though it doesnt look broken, a junky fuse can cause your appliance to do very strange things. I replaced mine 6 months ago and it works like its fresh out of the box.
