Question about Sharp R-1480 Microwave Oven

1 Answer

Door opening internal plastic hinge broken

The white plastic rotating hinge that the door opening button pushes on is broken. One of the little axis is separated from the rest.
I am looking at the same part (#B016) or a way to repair it by gluing it back together with the right glue.
What kind of plastic is it?

  1. Open leverCheck your microwave lever to determine if it is damaged. If it is broken, simply replace the lever to get your microwave door fully functional again.
  2. Door springResponsible for keeping downward pressure on the door hook, the microwave door spring can begin to malfunction. If this part is broken and prevents you from opening your microwave door, replacement is necessary.
  3. Door latchOne reason your microwave door may not open properly is a broken door latch. Located inside the microwave, the door latch manipulates the door hook to keep the door closed for safety and top performance. If broken, the door could become stuck in the locked position.
  4. Door hookIf your microwave door will not release properly, the door hook could be damaged. Located inside the door, the door hook is made of plastic and prone to breakage with extended use or age. As this part is unable to be repaired, the only option is to replace it.
  5. Button or button springIf the microwave door will not open, it could be an internal failure of the button or button spring. If it is determined that either of these parts is the source, both are replaceable and it is recommended that they be installed at the same time.
  6. Handle actuatorIf the microwave door will not open the plastic handle actuator could be broken. Connected between the door button and the door latch assembly, this plastic part could become damaged and brittle over time, which makes breaking inevitable. If this occurs, replace the handle actuator to get your microwave fully functional again.

How do I remove the oven door on my GE range

With oven door about a 1/2" from being closed, try holding door from each side and lift straight up. (slides of actual hinge). A little tug motion on each side will get it to unsnap from a socket. You can open door a little more to clear door moving up. When ready to put back, slide it back on hinges and moving down will kind of snap in place. No screw or button to push.

Dacor dcm 24s one broken safety door latch- door open button not

If the broken part is in the door, you will not have to pull the oven out of its place.

If the broken part is in the door open button area, you will have to remove the oven and take off the outer cover. Chances are it will be a broken "door open lever".

Assuming it's a door latch, you can use a thin strip of plastic to open the door.

It has to be somewhat firm but very flexible because it will have to bend at a right angle.

I have a flexible ruler I use for this.

You have to first shove the plastic strip into the crack between the door and the control panel frame about halfway up the door.

Then the strip will need to be maneuvered so it will bend to the left. Do this by pushing the rear end of the strip down as you continue to push it forward.

It may take a few tries.

Once you have it between the back of the door and the front seal of the cooking cavity, pull the strip straight and firmly up and it will lift the upper door latch and the door will open.

(If the upper latch is the one that's open, you have to start with the strip at the bottom edge of the door instead of the middle).

We have the service / repair manual for this model and have uploaded it to our site here to help you.

It will give you safety info, step by step help in disassembly and troubleshooting tips, and the parts list is here.

Most computers will open these documents automatically, but you may need the free Adobe Reader.

You can order parts
here.

Once you have the door open, you have to separate the door panels (as shown in the attached photo) and then you'll see the previously hidden screws you need to remove.

Or you can watch a YouTube video (not a video I made) that demonstrates how it's done.

Kitchenaid model KHHS179LSS Microwave oven handle replacement

There is a pin holding the door on upper right hand corner of the door. Holding the door in the open position, lift up on the door a little and remove the pin. The door will come off. There are two screws on the edges of the door on the end where the handle is located. Remove the screws. Now, Take a slim screw driver, and carefully pry between the inside door panel and the ourside door panel starting at the end where the door handle is. Lift the inside of the door out. The opposite end of the inside door panel will come out last. Believe me, this works. Getting it back together is a little bit different, but it snaps back together without using tools. Just put the inside of the door back by laying it down with the handle side down after you have replaced the handle of course. Now, pushing in on the inside of the door panel starting on the handle side, start with lining up the panel and push gently. It will go back into place much much easier than it comes out.

Loose microwave door

My over the range microwave had a loose door, it sagged when it was open but you could lift it to close. Called repair person he said no it could not be fixed. You could see the bottom hinge was loose and slipping. I loosened 3 screws that holds the bottom on the microwave -you have to do this to change the light bulb also. The bottom hinge on the door was loose there was a hole there, so took a screw and nut to hold the hinge in place..I am a 70+year old woman-if I can you can.
