Question about Amplifiers & Preamps

1 Answer

Recording troubleshooting I have been unable to successfully record two tracks at the same time. When I attempt this, one track is always extremely quiet. However, when I record seperately, both tracks are clear and equal in recording levels. nowhere in the troubleshooting section of the owners manual does it describe this scenario. Can you help? Furthermore, does anyone know of an 800 number ? .,.where I can actually speak with a human on the phone? thanks, tony

Have you tried the "Simulated" surround setting?

If you don't get sound in "Simulated" mode then you have probably lost the surround channels.

If you do get sound then your "Media"
is not recorded with a surround "Track". or the surround "Processor" may have issues that need to go to the repair shop.

No fear.
Try to reachinternal side of front panel with volume controls. Put some paper towels under the front panel. Pour lighter fuel into every dirty volume control turning knob around several times.- It will rinse out all dirt from carbon track or contacts. (I don't know what kind was used).- This is only temporary solution, good for one year or so. Proper solution-> unsolder volume control, open it up , inspect and clean or replace for a new one. It will work, I did it hundreds of times...always with positive results.

Cd's keep skipping

The laser pickup assembly is the problem, the stepper rail that the laser is mounted on is driven by a worm gear that often cracks or developes a flat spot causing the pickup skip and jump, also what must be taken into account is the laser has become weaker over a period of time. If repairs are going to be performed replace the whole assembly everything is new and comes pre-aligned when installed.

Crackling noise with my volume knob when i turn the volume

It's probably dust in the volume control. It gets in between the carbon track and the wiper that rotates on the track, or the resistive / carbon track inside the control is wearing out. As yours is stereo there will be 2 tracks and 2 wipers, one could be worn more than the other.
This should give you an idea. Inside Pot

My pcm board on my bass amp has a broken trace in it. how can i fix it?

Simply solder a piece of insulated wire from the nearest connection point (solder joint) on one end of the broken track to another solder joint connection where the track goes. Make certain that the wire doesn't touch (make connection) with any track etc it shouldn't. You only need a thin piece of wire.

''pop noise'' problem with a Marantz SC-80

Noise like you describe is more often caused by Electrolytic Capacitors. My guess is It's likely that one of them is leaking that DC into the circuit. Replace them on the tone control board one at a time (if you can't track it down) till you solve it.
