whenever i try to power up my comp with this graphics card in it, all that happens is my card runs the fan very loud, i get a blank screen and no sound. my comp doesnt even run bios, it works perfectly fine with other or no graphics cards. but with my 8600 it just does nothing but the fan.

this occured after i unplugged my comp in the middle of a restart session (not the best idea i know :P)

Well for right around the same price range 90-130 bucks, you can get yourself the ATI Radeon 4850 card (one of their top of the line cards) for right around that price... or you can get a higher end geforce card for right around 100 bucks too like the higher 8 or 9 series cards. Especially the 9 series cards have come down on price significantly and you're getting ddr3 member on them also, so you can't go wrong with that.

With my best guess, you can always try to see if a different card works (so you can eliminate anything else system-wise) if you do get a picture.

If that dummy card works, try this one again but reset the CMOS to see if that will clear anything up.

If that doesn't work, try this card in another system to see if it works.

If that doesn't work, then I would contact XFX to get an RMA (they should be open today if I'm not mistaken)

Is the fan on your card always running throughout the entire start up or does it start, then stop turning?

Whining fan dell E520 computer

Replace the fan as soon as possible. If the noise suddenly stops, DON'T assume the problem corrected itself. More likely, the fan completely froze and stopped spinning entirely and you're at risk of overheating something inside. Generally, there are usually 3 fans in a desktop computer (cpu/heatsink, case, and power supply) and sometimes a 4th fan if the computer has a separate graphics card. Laptops usually only have one fan.

I have a Dell Dimension E520 that I've used for

If the power LED is solid Amber, then the like answer is a bad motherboard or peripheral connected to it. So, remove any expansion cards (I See you already removed the Graphics card) and all external connections (Just use power cord) and see if the system will power on with any different indications. If the power LED stays Solid Amber, replace the motherboard

No power on dell e520 dimension

On the 20 pin connector, short the green wire to any black wire with a paperclip. This will force the power supply to turn on manually if the motherboard is not giving the correct "ON" signal.

If your monitor is fine try changing the data cable to one you know to be working. If it still does not work then the graphics card needs to be replaced.
