Question about Whirlpool Duet GHW9150P Front Load Washer
When I try to start a load the washer will lock and then it makes a grinding sound for about 5 minutes and the error message F 30 shows up. I have tried to reset it and I have also unplugged it for a few minutes...neither helped.
We had the same problem. We took the advice of Bugthis (posted Oct. 4/07) and removed the detergent drawer and reached to the very top of back of drawer, where there is a water diverter that was stuck between an open and closed position. We just turned it back to the closed position and replaced the drawer. Then we just started the machine back up again and it worked!!!!!! Thank you Bugthis!!!!
P.S. we also called service and all they wanted to do is send a service person out and told us that something was wrong with the motor. What a joke? I'm sure they've received many calls about this problem. Thanks again.

We got ours about four months ago and this is the first time it has happened to us. It is really a simple "fix", but one that should not have to be done in the first place. It seems as though the encoder looses its place, or deposits from the different liquids build up and the arm seizes up. I am an electrician and I have had experience with encoders going bad. Good luck with yours!

Same thing here, and "The way I fix it is to remove the detergent/softener dispenser, reach back to the far back and top of the water area, and apply pressure to the diverter (which is attached to that arm and servo) until it is free, stops making the grinding noise and moves on its own again." seems to be working. We purchased at Lowes in Sept. Seems to be trend...

I had the same thing happen. A small plastic arm (couldn't cost more than 50 cents) over detergent dispencer is too long causing it to cam over to the left too far. Repair man has been here twice (only purchased machine on 8/27/07, used 10 times). Cannot get the right part from Whirpool. Right now I am using a piece of GUM to stop arm from going too far to left so I can at least wash a load of clothes. I talked to Lowe's this morning and they agreed to take the machine back. This is insane for a machine over $1,000! I am going to buy something else. Good Luck

This worked for me too! The one thing that isn't emphasized is that you need to really push up hard. (I am a middle aged woman with short arms), Then you'll eventually be able to push and turn it. I kept in unplugged for five minutes after that then turned it back on and it's working great! It's really pitiful though that Sears couldn't give me the solution when I called service. They even told me that it would be 10 days to get a repairman here. Moral to the story...don't buy appliances from Sears their service is non-existant

I have now had this problem twice - the most recent time was the first load after the repair man was here - and my unit is only 2 weeks old. For me, it only seems to happen after I use the rinse/spin or drain/spin option, and then go back to normal wash. The way I fix it is to remove the detergent/softener dispenser, reach back to the far back and top of the water area, and apply pressure to the diverter (which is attached to that arm and servo) until it is free, stops making the grinding noise and moves on its own again.

Have same problem the small motor that turns the arm had a lot of play so i used a paper clip in a small slot at the bottom of the servo to wedge the servo up a little . seems to be working ok now.

Good Afternoon William - I understand that your door will not lock and it is display an error message. Try resetting the unit by either unplugging it or flipping the household circuit breaker off. Wait approximately 2 minutes and turn on the washer. Select a normal cycle and verify if the washer will start. If the washer will not operate then it possibly have a faulty door lock assembly or a communication problem with the control board. Contact a professional to move forward accurately.
