Printer squeaks badly, lubrication possible? - Canon PIXMA MP160 All-In-One InkJet Printer

  • inuyasha1950 Sep 21, 2013

This is an older machine, in use for about six years. It squeaks and grinds like mad but still works. I was hoping somebody had found a way to lubricate these things,

Maybe it isn't sitting flat on the surface, or too much or not enough paper. loaded. wish I could help you but I never had a squeaky printer yet. I have a Canon MG2120 InkJet Printer. love it! Mine makes a noise like fluttering! maybe a little oil is right. Call the 800 number in the directions manual, they can advise correctly! Julie

Can the rollers be lubricated to stop squeaks and groans? If so, how?

You do not lubricate rollers directly. You lubricate the gears driving the rollers. I generally use white lithium grease.

My Dell 5210n printer has a very loud squeak in the back. How do open the printer to lubricate the bearings?

Usually you don't lubricate. It is probably the fuser assembly wearing. How is the print quality? Have you ran a test page, ran a supply status page? Checked the error log?

Squeaking noise from tread

usually when a treadmill begins to make a squeaking sound it means that the belt needs to be lubricated. Try Treadmill Belt Lubricant available at Canadian Tire for $10.99 and is good for Reebok treadmills.

Printer is squeaking when printing.

Before digging too deep, try removing the toner cartridge and powering on. The printer will make a short run cycle and you can listen for the squeak. Many times it's just the toner or drum and you don't need expensive repairs, just a cartridge.

Squeaking

the squeak is coming from the drum unit. If you take out the drum and rotate it by hand it will most likely give you the same noise. you may be able to stop it by pouring some toner on it, but in reality it is more annoying than a problem.
there is a blade that scrapes off excess toner from the drum, it is slightly dry and causes the squeaking, technicians usually use a special powder that looks like baby powder to "lubricate" the blade, and stop the noise.
