Question about Compaq Presario R3000 Notebook
Tray and remove the battery from the system, leave the system plugged in with the battery out. Does the system boot? If yes, then the system board has enought power to turn the computer on, your board is most likley fine. however that may not be the case and it could be the board I would look at replacing the battery before you replace the board.
Also try and use the power adaptor that game with the unit, this will help ensure that your system will not get to much volts and fry a cap on the board.
Hope this helps.
