Question about HP Compaq Presario V2000 Notebook

1 Answer

Blank screen I've had my Compaq Notebook for a little over a year. I could get a picture and now the screen is COMPLETELY blank no matter what angle I have my LCD propped. I hooked it up to an external monitor and the Windows XP boot came up, but it went blank on the external monitor stating "Video input". I don't get it. What's the problem and what should I do?

Re: Blank screen

I think your LCD is stuffed is it under warranty do you know BUT if the screen is cracked they wont replace it typical HP. To get your external monitor running hold down the function key and the blue monitor looking key similtaneously normally on compaq its the F4 key but look around your keyboard (looks like a monitor) and is blue letters.

Does the laptop appear to bootup and the hard disk LED light is flashing, but you get a blank screen?

Blank (dark) screen

If you can still see a faint image on the screen, then its the inverter coil or the inverter itself which has gone bad or maybe even worked itself loose causing a bad connection.
Either way you will have to take it to PC repair shop to be looked at.

Good luck and thanks for using Fixya!

The screen is blank

Before you go out and buy a new laptop, you might want to consider this. The problem, as described would indicate that you may have a LCD cable connector that is loose. To check this out, you will need to access the motherboard to reseat that end of the cable and access the inside of the LCD to reseat the other end. If this doesn't work, you might want to try replacing the LCD cable itself.
