How much Ram am I using?

I have installed 4 * 1GB ram and, on start up, set-up shows each slot contains 1Gb as expected. However I also have PC Registry Mechanic running and this says I only have 2 GB of Ram! Which is right? Am I getting the proper use of my 4 GB?

This solution would explain why I get less than 4 Gb, maybe as little as 3Gb, but not why I only get 2Gb. I would like to understand this before I throw good money after bad and upgrade from XP to Vista.

    Windows itself says 3.5 GB

Unless you are running a 64-bit version of XP or Vista, Windows will not report the full 4GB. It's because of the way the program addresses and uses RAM. Here is a page that gives a little explanation. The bottom line is that if you want to get the full use of 4GB of RAM you need the 64-bit operating system.

I WILL REPAIR MY COMPUTER

Upgrade your RAM into 1GB or more, currently you are using 512MB which causes your system slowdown. On that model look for SoDIMM RAM with the DDR2 slot with 1GB or more. If you can see 2 memory slots, just buy additional RAM then put it on the blank slot.

You can click on any photo to enlarge it.

Step 3 photo shows the Memory Compartment.

Two ram memory (SO-DIMM) can be used. There are two ram memory slots.

1GB however, IS the largest amount for EACH slot.

I am using Intel D865GBF board having Dual Channel DDR400/333/255 SDRAM memory support. It is of 3GHZ, 256 MB RAM. The other day I bought 1GB RAM of Transcend and tried fitting the same. But the PC never...

Yes it can support 1GB ram. Max capacity up to 4GB of ram, meaning 1GB each on each slot. Make sure that the memory that you will be installing are either DDR400, DDR333 or DDR266. It could be the RAM is faulty if the one you bought is the DDR's that I mentioned

Hp Compaq dx2200 MT RAM Problems

Firstly, you have to know that you can upgrade RAM as Double or Half of your pre-installed RAM. For example, like your pre-installed RAM is 256 MB, you can only upgrade RAM of capacity 128 MB or 512 MB. Secondly, check your previous installed RAM's speed that is shown in Ghz. You can only upgrade RAM to its similar speed, otherwise you get slow performance of PC.

Trying to upgrade RAM - won't boot after new RAM installed

Install the RAM on memory slot and Switch on your system and go to BIOS settings. There you can check whether your RAM is working properly or not. If it shows no memory installed then the RAM Chip may be damaged.
